3. proof of funds-- i.e bank statements

is that it?
well first make sure you go to the policia federal whcih there is only one in curitiba i believe, and thats the federal police..

i dont remember everyhting, but your passport yes, and i think just the fee you had to pay had to be authorized by some place, that was next door, and then i had to get the funds in a bank check to pay the place i believe, its not complicated..and at the police station they have someone who speaks english who will explain everything to you and help you

it was fairly easy, i was actually worried they would say no, but i just told them why i was staying, and paid them, and that was all

but i did no have bank statements, and i dont think i had my plane ticket..bring it just in case

what im just remembered you do need is the paper they give you when you enter the country, its the lil piece of paper that needs to be with you for your whole trip..not physically with you, just hang on to it..because if you lose it you have to pay some kind of fee

Did you find a place yet Stu or are you going to find a flat like Dynasty did?

Also Dynasty, can you just go into a neighboring country for a few days and then back into Rio to re-extend your visa for another 3/6 months? I remember you said something about going to Paraguay? Does this not work? I think people in Thailand just head over to Cambodia for a weekend and then back into Thailand.

Hey codysweet-- Yeah i read about that too--that you can just cross the border to Paraguay and come back and you can get yourself another 6 months in Brasil lol

Yes I found a room for rent- I joined this brazilian website -of people advertising spare rooms-- pretty nice house near the beach in Recreio-- The room is R$ 600 a month about £188 for me $370 in USD-- Is quite reasonable-

going 28th July

Thats great. Man, if only the damn dollar wasnt so weak right now.

Have you been in contact wtih the gym Nog/Silva train at? Any idea what the cost is going to be to train at it? Im envious of you man, you should have a great trip. Have you studied any Portugese?
Here are some, what appear to be, good ways to help you learn a langauge.
http://fourhourworkweek.com/bonus/pd...arn-lang-A.pdf What i like about this link is it says to get a list of the 100 most SPOKEN words of the particular language you are trying to learn and study them. Says the most spoken, and written, words are often different.

Happier Abroad :: View topic - How to Learn a Foreign Language in Six Months to a Year.
This post has some good ideas also. Reading a shitload of Childrens books in Port will teach you a lot of basic grammar and also basic words.

http://fourhourworkweek.com/bonus/pd...otten-lang.pdf
This is for releraning a langauge, but I think has some good tips for just learning. Flashcards, for me, have always been the best way for me to learn and retain things that were about pure memorization. Having someone quiz you with the flashcards works best for me. I can take a stack of 50 flash cards and learn them fairly well in an hour if i stick to it.

Any chance you will be able to keep a log of your time there like Dynasty did? Be another great read for the rest of us losers still stuck in school/work.

Yes! i have been in contact with Team Noguirea. The guy there was trying to get me a apartment in Copcabana 20 miles away from the gym (i was like fuck that!! no way am i travelling 50mins a day by bus-and living in one of the worst areas for being robbed) So I went on this site (Quarto para alugar vagas , quartos em pensionatos )...... and found a room about 5 mins walk from the gym

You should create your own account/ profile - You can change the language of the site too-- But I would contact room owners in portuguese. With your own profile people can see who you are and what you need-i have had a good number of offers from many people.

I don't have any information yet on training prices at the gym -the guy never got back to me

I have been learning portuguese for 3 years now--I'm OK --i can write and read good too....

I don't want to hack Dyn's thread lol-- I may keep a blog in a thread in the grappling forum

here are other sites for finding rooms

I had read about CouchSurfing before but never checked it out. Just checked it out the other day and it is pretty sweet. Like a Myspace/Facebook for people traveling. You can put in requests to stay with people and you can give reviews of your time with the people.

Keeping a blog or something like that would be sweet Stu. Give us people stuck state side something to dream about.
