Top instructionals?

I'm a mere white belt, so flame away if this has been done before but i think it could be a good resource if it hasn't.

Also, i'm not sure if books/dvds/etc count as 'gear' so i'd be greatful if the admins moved it if this is in the wrong place.

Everyone knows that getting professional training is the best way to learn. But sometimes people don't have training facilities for particular styles near them or they might have only a casual interest in learning new things. I know jack shit about training materials, but on this forum there is probably enough experience to write a bible. So;

Name your favourite few of the following;

Books;
- Jiu Jitsu defence (from guard, from being mounted, etc)
- Jiu Jitsu offence (subs, takedowns, guard passes, etc)
- Judo throws/takedowns
- Judo pins/chokes/etc
- Freestyle wrestling
- Greco Roman wrestling
- Catch wrestling
- Any other grappling
- Boxing technique or strategy
- Muay Thai technique or strategy
- General MMA
- Conditioning
- Strength/power training
- Flexability, injury recovery, etc
- Anything else you can think of.

DVDs/Video;

- Same categories as the list above.

I figure everyone of us would like to have a massive collection of DVDs and books to read up and clarify a few things. Some recommendations could help anyone in the market looking to buy something specific.

Fire away.

I'll throw in my favourites, although i haven't read/watched much.

'Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory & Technique' by Renzo Gracie, Royler Gracie, John Danaher and Kid Peligro

A great book for the basics, i'm sure every jiu jitsu practitioner has seen it already. Covers all the basics subs and positions.

'Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Submission Grappling Techniques' by Royler Gracie and Kid Peligro

More advanced than the one mentioned above. All no gi. Some great stuff in there.

'Greco Roman Wrestling' by William A. Martell

A great book covering a lot of Greco, but a bit hard to understand unless you have experience wrestling. A lot of it provides great ideas for clinch control but there is a lot on ground wrestling that wouldn't really apply to MMA.

'Boxing Mastery : Advanced Technique, Tactics, and Strategies from the Sweet Science' by Mark Hatmaker and Doug Werner

A textbook on boxing. Great.

'The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding' by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Dobbins

A bible of strength, nutrition, injury prevention... and then a load of useless crap (to me) on posing and shit. Good anyway. Doubles as a dumbell.

'Stretching Scientifically: A Guide to Flexibility Training (4th Revision ed)' by Thomas Kurz

Kurz shot himself in the foot by originally marketting this book as a 'too good to be true' guide to achieving suspended splits. In reality, it's just a great book on improving your flexability written in a style that is scientific and written by someone academically qualified in this area. Great book.

You know, that's probably something that I need the most instruction on as my flexibility could do with a lot of improving.

I highly recommend that book. It explains clearly how flexability works, debunks a lot of myths and provide scientific evidence for both of those thing. It includes example exercises and routines too. Finished of with an FAQ.

Bump!
