I've had singles weaves that have lasted 1-5 years and gold weaves that have last 6 months-5 years and two doubles that I've had for over 10 years. How long they last depends on the brand and how you take care of it not so much the weave (double will last forever though).

For someone starting out get a good cheap single (HCK) or a cheap Gold (Sirius). Hold off on the doubles until you enter comps.

The Gameness Platinum weave is not a version of the gold weave. We used to carry gold weave and upgraded our material and weave to platinum. A platinum gi is stronger than a double weave, but lighter. If you want a lightweight gi, Gameness has a single weave that is made with the same collar and sticthing as the platinum.

I've had a single, a double, and I'm not sure what my third one is since it was a gift from someone else from their native country, but it's between the single and double.

Honestly, I hate the double weave. I used it for judo and it was pretty good at discouraging strong holds during grappling, but a complete pain to actually maneuver in. I paid a pretty penny for it (Adidas Elite) but never wear it... ever. My single weave is too easy to grapple and I have long sense donated it to an old judo dojo of mine. I now only wear my foreign gi, though it is a bit too big. I'm sticking with the ones between single and double from now on.

Maybe it was just the Adidas brand that made it (double) too stiff and unmaneuverable, I'm not sure. But for the time being, I'm staying away from the double weaves.
