I am glad that you asked that question about the glove thumb. It is probably one of the most common questions that has been asked about these gloves. When John first posted photos of one of the first Top King Air Velcro gloves that he used to test out and train in, several people asked that. It was also a question I asked prior to purchasing mine.
After getting mine, I can tell you that although the thumb looks pretty straight in photographs, I do not anticipate it being a problem at all. If you look at the third photo that I posted with one glove face up and one glove face down, and look at the glove with the back facing up and palm facing down, you will see that the thumb falls well under the extended top side edge/ striking area of the glove. When you put the glove on and make a fist, it fits neatly up against and inside that little side pocket area.
It is also an attached thumb with a good design. The attachment piece is very similar to a Fairtex BGV1 glove attachment for the thumb. That coupled with the fact that these are brand new gloves and have not been worn or broken in would lead me to say that not only is it not a problem now, it will probably take on a more curved look as the gloves are broken in. Similar to breaking in a new baseball glove.
So for anyone who is concerned about the straight appearance of the thumb, I can tell you, don't let it be a factor in not choosing these gloves. Because after seeing the gloves and putting them on, making a fist feels good and natural. I do not anticipate it being a problem what so ever. I hope this helps clear up the thumb design questions or concerns.
