Boardshorts
Are the boardshorts you can get at pacsun etc pretty much the same as mma boardshorts? Are the regular boardshorts good enough for MMA/grappling??

Yeah, anything made by Billabong, DC, Volcom, etc. are going to be just as good for grappling, and better quality overall. You'll find the good stuff usually retails for about $50 though, which is more than MMA shorts run a lot of times. Also, board shorts don't have flex panels, or grip crotches, or split seams or anything. I prefer boardshorts because they are usually slightly heavier in weight and better quality, with none of the elastic waistband crap. Can't stand elastic waitbands and huge velcro closure systems, which are totally unnecessary.

I disagree. Some of my MMA shorts are better quality than my boardshorts. Especially when you start factoring things like Stretch panels and split seams. High Quality MMA shorts are up in the $50 range.
Marte, What size waist do you have? I know a few manufactures that make shorts as small as 26.

do not listen to this guy. I have several pairs of hurley and volcom boardshorts and while they are nice they certainly do not hold up nearly as well as boardshorts such as clinch gear or sprawls that were specifically designed for grappling and muay thai. Regular boardshorts are NOT tripple stitched anywhere (you must have triple stitching in the crotch area if you are going to grapple), do not have stretch panels anywhere (like he said). If you can afford $50 for good normal boardshorts then throw it down and get something like this
Clinch Gear Classic Black MMA Fight Shorts
SPRAWL V-Flex XT Competition Logos –2007 LE Brown/Blue Fight Shorts

the clinch gear's i linked above come in size 26, that is very small. I am sure if you e-mail erin crecy from the clinch ger website he can tell you what that would be in womens sizes. I find clinch gear's to run a little small anyhow. I just wrote a review of them here, it might help you out. Mega Gear Review!!

that is a problem for anyone not in Cali trying to buy gear. I don't know of any place in the Chicago area. Pretty much anyone you deal with will accept returns and let you exchange for a different size. I know sprawl, triumph united and clinch gear do this all the time.
