Mouth Gaurd Nausea

Does anyone else ever experience nausea from wearing a mouth guard?

I always have a weaker stomach from using a mouth guard.

I use a $20 shock doctor boil and bite.

I have never even heard of that. I've heard of people having a gag reflex from having a guard that goes too far back but never getting nausea from it. Try getting a custom? They seem better in every way than the boil and bite and may cure this problem. Either that or try washing it after training.

Can you pinpoint what about the mouthguard might be causing your nausea? Is it too long where it rests in the back of your mouth? Are you using a double or single? Could it be the activity you happen to be doing while you have the mouthguard in, ie.. nerves + gassed out from sparring or competing?

I use a single. Its true i don't use all the time so I'm not always comfortable wearing it.
Particularly if I feel sick from it. Maybe I should head for a custom?

Don't think so. Customs are better but for different reasons. Just wear the one you've got more. Wear it around the house to get used to it

i would of thought it was the gag factor, but this sounds different to anything iv'e ever heard.

if its a gag factor, you'd want to like take it out, cause your gagging, nausea is sickness like u want to vomit. so lets be clear about that?

even so, it should only take you 5-10 mins to get used to a new guard...

Its actually late into the workouts with a mouth piece that I feel ill, not at the beginning.

I'm usually not nauseaus without a mouth piece.

it might not be fitting right and the pressure on your gums might be giving you an adverse reaction, that is the only thing I can think of.

If Tom or another rep were alive and active, I am sure they could give more insight... but sadly....

You will need to get use to wearing a guard if you have never worn one, I would get a custom for sure though, that should help relieve some of the problem, they really are worth the investment...
