MMA Starter Pack
I know I'll be serious and commited to MMA and the sport, so I want to start buying the gear. Right now, I'm thinking of buying the SSFFighterPak (Which includes MMA gloves, RG, Fightshorts,Thai gloves). Would the Thai gloves work well for heavybag? And then, I'm thinking of buying a headgear (Didn't think a cauliflower ear is too fun), but which would you suggest? I need something that protects well, but economical as well. I'm also going to get the ShockDoctor X-Fit Supporter with Flex cup, and then find something for a mouthguard, since I have a retainer+braces combo (Hate having bad teeth.) I think that's all I need right?
And MAYBE I'm going to get this stand since I can't hang sh*t in my apartment ( http://www.modells.com/product/index...entPage=family) I also wanted to get the classic banana thai bag from Title, since it's on sale and I can't afford to pay 200+ for a good thai bag.

So, what do you say? What I'm looking here for is to buy enough gear to protect myself and so I can excel in this field, but not too expensive because my budget sucks. Some things might be unneccesary here, and some things I might have missed. Please help me with this, my friendly Sherdoggers.

That's gonna cost quite a bit....especially with tax/s&h. You don't need to buy it all at once, just buy like 1-2 things each time you have the $$..

Bag gloves Really arent that expensive...i would pick up a cheap pair of bag gloves to use ....the shorts arent exactly neccessary,..they look cool...but you may end up looking like a chode showing up fully decked out in a RG and shorts and not having a day under your belt...Shorts and RG's are nice,..dont get me wrong..but a simple pair of athletic shorts and a cotton T will work fine until you either get a bigger budget or get deeper in the sport...plenty of guys i train with dont have MMA shorts or RG's and they work out fine....the only difference is you sweat more and hold more of the sweat...which really isnt that big of a deal..espec if your trying to shed a few pounds...I think you would be better off picking up a midrange set of MMA gloves, a set of bag gloves, and a shock DR...
Imagine showing up for Basketball practice with a brand new 100+ pair of shoes and all decked out in brand new top notch shorts and shit and not being able to shoot a J?

I dont want you to think that im coming at you either...
im just trying to help....
i think you would be more than fine if you had a pair of gloves (Shoot's are cheap and fairly comfortable)...a pair of bag gloves, wrist wraps, and a mouth piece....
and MackZ said,...you slowly start to add to your collection...and before you know it,...you can open a gym..haha

lol... i don't think it matters... if you want to wear some mma shorts and a rg on day 1 that is probably cool presuming you are taking no-gi or some kind of mma class... if you are doing gi jiu jitsu you obviously would need to add a gi... and you also will likely need some shin pads if you are doing any sparring / stand up... i use the ssf thai gloves and shin pads, also have a pair of their split seam board shorts (i like them better than sprawls personally) so i would definately recomend them as a good starter brand... id definately hold off on the heavy bag and stand until you have stuck w/ it a few months... i can't see rushing into a huge home purchase like that unless you know the sport is something you like to do a lot
edit : definately get a mouth gaurd and decent cup...!!!

When I started out, I just wore adidas athletic pants and bummer t-shirts. Then I worked my way up from there.
Just go one piece at a time. Search these forums and read all the reviews... Eventually you will know what to buy.
Def get a mouthpiece if you are striking. The $5 Shock Doctor Pro is cheap and fits nicely.
EDIT: Crap, you have braces. I missed that the first time. SD has mouthpieces for braces also though, check them out.

Thanks guys.
I would get a mouth piece and cup (can't use some ones mouth piece or cup), gloves (or fighters pack), then the bag.
You can always use the gym's gloves until you get your own.
