Women's BJJ Gi

My wife is trying out grappling this week for a few classes, and if she likes it we're going to need to get her a gi. Are there any other female gi's other than the ones from Atama? She doesn't like the pink on their gi. Also, is there any difference in the cut or sizing of the gi's, or is the Atama gi a women's only because of the pink patches?? Their site is a little unclear on the actual difference.

If we were to buy her a men's gi, would we have to take any consideration in adjusting the size? We'll probably just have to order her a larger gi anyways because she is so tall (6').

Any gi manufacturers that post on Sherdog, or other female mma or bjj'ers that can post would be a great help. Thank you.

We have had the best luck with Sirius gis on women. The cut just seems to work better then the other brands that we carry.

There is no difference between womens and mens gi's. Some brands (Atama, KF, War) are making them in pink color and that's the only difference, the cut is absolutely the same.

Thank you very much, this is what I was hoping. I'll just have her try on mine and go from there.

Now Foz can order a women's gi from Atama and know it'll fit the same and be pink!

I'll repeat what I pm'd to dj here, just in case other folks are wondering the same sorts of things-- (and sorry, I totally missed the detail about your wife being tall)

I've always used "mens" gis. However, I am probably a little more muscular than the typical girl, and I like extra room around my shoulders.

If a girl is especially slender, she may want to call the particular vendors to ask about sizing, but speaking for myself, the sizing charts have been relatively on point, regardless of gender intention.

Which gi company you go with may be affected by variables involved with what sort of fit you like in your gi. Some folks like tapered sleeves, or a roomy fit across the back and shoulders, or a tight contour with the hips. Also, how are you laundering your gi? Is it your only gi? Do you have time for it to line dry, or will you need to be able to toss it in a dryer before next class?

as for my own `druthers, I'm an Atama girl. Some of that loyalty comes from training at a Royce affiliate, but I can't say I have any complaints about any of the gis I have bought from them over the years-- gold weave mundial editions and more recently, summer gis. I've seen no defects, tears, etc. And I would readily order from them again.
