Mats

Hey guys, so I recently decided I wanted to pick up some mats for my basement/garage. I was just wondering what company makes quality mats, not only do I want quality I need them to be cheap.

I was just google'ing some for some mats, MMA mats specifcally and this came up Jigsaw Mats - $24.99 and that seems like a pretty good deal. I saw the Zebra mats but they are really expensive.

As far as sites though, that martialartssupplies seems like a pretty legit site and their prices are cheaper than most places, and yes I looked on budovideos.com and thats where I found this one Budovideos.com - Haiti Tatames Mat Small Kit. I also found revgear.com and they have some cheap mats too as well as getrung.com

I'm looking for just normal mats, not ones that are super thick to where you sink into them, but I want them to offer protection for takedowns and such.

So I guess my question to you guys is which site sells cheap quality mats? And as far as mats go which brand makes cheap quality mats?

Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

EDIT: I just read up about the Zebra mats and they sound excellent, with the whole closed cell technology, are there any other mats out there like these that are cheaper?

I'm personally looking at these right now. I got a free sample from them and all though it's only a small square I'm fairly impressed with them and I like the tatami surface. Plus the shipping is included in the price.

Tatami industrial interlocking foam floor mats for martial arts, mma, bjj, wrestling, grappling, judo and more.

I'm also looking at these thicker but they are a bit more expensive...

Grappling Mats | Judo Mat | MMA Mats

I was trying to keep away from the tatami surface just because the Zebra mats kinda of put them down on how abrasive they are and all that haha, but yeah I was looking at the getrung ones as well

Does any one know where to get Zebra mats CHEAP?

EDIT: Maybe i'm wrong about the tatami thing, do zebra MMA mats use the tatami surface?

I was just looking at these: https://www.zebramats.com/shop/produ...roducts_id=270

Seem a bit more practical thatn the puzzle mats, and better? Idk about better but they seems nice. Question is would they be nice for MMA? Or would I be better off buying the puzzel mats?

Heres a few more interestin ones: https://www.zebramats.com/shop/produ...roducts_id=209

One last thing, does anyone here have any insite on open vs closed foam? On the Zebra site they hype it up and make it sound great, but litterally every where else I read; which was a few places, said closed is better.

AKATHLETICS
this is a columbus based company. They can make mats anysize, any thickness. Their standard is 1-3/8" thick closed cell foam mats, vinyl covered with no surface texture.
They can print wrestling circles on mats at no extra charge.
a 10' x 10' sectionis $360.
We bought 800 square feet to grappleon for my gym 3 years ago. we roll on them every day. i am extremely happy with the mats still. the circles have yet to peel. the foam has not worn out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

as far as open versus closed cellfoam. closed is not better, itis cheaper. companies that use open cell foam (resilite, etc) generally equip high school wrestling rooms and are upwords of 5 dollar per square foot at the cheapest. the footing is not fast but soft.
closed cell mats are what is generally used as flooring for mma cages, cheerleading mats, aerobics mats (all in varying firmness) and the footing is faster, bouncier.

Thanks for the reply, I've come across those mats before, didn't seem to interest me but i'll look into them again. For some reason I dont like the wrestling "circles", but hey what ever works.

As far as the closed vs open thanks for that, I've been researching for a bit and come to the conclusion that I don't care to much, since both would be good. Though I will most likely end up with a closed cell mat which is perfectly fine.

ATM I'm kinda stuck between the Dollamur and Tiffin mats. YES I DID SEARCH THIS SUBJECT. There were a few things about this topic, but the ones were from years ago and I find that the mats may have been updated since then. Does any one have any insight on the subject? I was just thinking of going on the cheaper of the two, and it seems there pretty close which didn't use to be the case a few years ago.

EDIT: So I just checked on those akathletic mats and they are actually pretty expensive, it's $490 for a 10'x10'

One more question guys, is there any downsides to roll up mats?

For some reason I've always had the notion they would just be "worse" in the sense that they'd offer less protection and stuff like that.
