Martial arts "stretching machines"

I did a quick search through the forum and couldn't find anything on stretching machines, so I apologize if this has already been posted and I missed it or this is the incorrect forum.

With that out of the way; has anyone used a martial arts stretching machine? If so, did you see any results?

Thanks.

They had one at the gym I worked out at and I used it after cardio, though I am not sure if I got results from it, I really didn't keep track

I wouldn't say that a stretcher is dangerous... at least not if you know what you are doing.

A guy in my TKD class has a stretching machine and loves it. He's definitely seen results from using it. He brought it into class and I didn't see anything dangerous about it.

hahahahahahaha... Back in my American Kenpo days I used to get drunk watching tv and fall asleep in one of these thingies. This was before the maufactureres pussed out and went to tthe plastic models. There's no experience like being hung over and not being able to move your legs until noon!

They aren't dangerous unless you are stupid.

Good questions guys.

Most stretching machines place alot of pressure on the knees. And many people are tempted to go to deep into a stretch because all they have to do is turn a crank. This can lead to serious hip/knee/groin injuries.

Most modern PhD holding physical preparation coaches will have you sit down in the splits and lean fowards to improve ROM in the groin muscles. This can be done for free, and is much safer.

nathan,

P.S. I can think of 3 better things you can buy with 150$ 1-5 private lessons, 1-5 massages, or 1-5 hookers.

Or why not combine all three and get a massage and private lesson from a hooker?

Oh and I concur with Anvar that is too easy to push yourself with the machines past what you should.

hmmm interesting. I suppose yeah it would be bad if you push yourself. I myself have great flexibility (used to be a gymnast, and won medals in our state/local competitions ) but its starting to deterierate. Must start stretching more.
