Looking for a pair of suitable MT gloves (for huge hands!)

Hi, I registered some months back as "Catholic Block", which was never activated by the admins. I've been lurking this site since, but have finally found a reason to start posting (even though I shouldn't, must spend the time revising for exams!)

My 18th birthday is coming up, like.. on Tuesday, and for a while my sister has been asking me what I'd like from her. She's very giving, even offered an iPhone, but after much thought I told her "I'll be more than happy to get a pair of MT gloves".

I've recently started MT, completed a 6 week intense beginner's course which I've really had fun with. It's a lot different from a form of Chinese Kickboxing which I did for 8 cumulative years previously, but I think I might actually enjoy it more. I didn't sign up straight away for the Improver's course (which I qualified for) since half the course fell into exam period, but will do com next term.

Anyway, since my semi-contact gloves seem to be of no use in MT, I've wanted a new pair of gloves. My instructor showed me some of the gloves he's selling (which includes Twins, Fairtex, Sandee etc.) and was interested in buying until I saw the prices he was selling at (£50 for twins, £48 for Fairtex) and have since found better deals on the net.

Since I can't go to my constructor, tell him I'm interested, try out the gloves then buy from another seller.. I thought I'd be better if I came to you guys for this. Anyway, straight to topic:

I want to get some MT gloves, and was interested in a pair of Twins (in particular, a white pair with a gold dragon design) but have read/heard about them not being the best for guys with large hands.

My hands are huge. Does that mean Twins is a no-no? Should I go for Fairtex/Sandee instead, even if they're not as fancy looking?

Thanks.

Sandee are junk... Don't believe what Mr. Holt tells you

If you want a pure MT glove, then Fairtex, Twins, or Windy are your best bet. (in that order IMO)

Heh, duly noted.

Thanks. I didn't really understand his pricings to be honest. He had the pricings, from most expensive.. Twins, Fairtex, Sandee, Windy, Raja, King, Everlast(?) or something.

Yeah, I think the cheapest pair of Twins I found were still at least a fiver cheaper than my instructor's value including P&P..

And thanks for the rec! I just PM'd him. The website he's representing looks quite cool, too.

Going to have to recommend Fairtex MT gloves. You can pick them up for www.combatsports.com. They are really really nice.

So your training with Sandy!!! I see his bloody advertising everywhere in Thailand, but that is Sandy for you. He is good at getting his name out. I actually used to train with Master Sken, but that is a different story.

Twins are not the best glove for large hands. They are a pretty tight fit. I use Fairtex BGV1. They are one of the best gloves I have used and feel comfortable with and without hand wraps. When you first start you can get away with just one pair of gloves. I would recommend going for a pair of 14 or 16oz gloves. Don't do like most beginners do and buy a pair of bag gloves first, because you will find yourself not been able to do the one touch free sparring and free sparring sessions.

Any questions just give me a shout.

PS King gloves are pretty good for their size compartments. Made at the same factory as Twins, but they have a slightly longer cuff and a more roomy hand compartment.

Oh, no my instructor is someone by the name of Sean and he teaches at a Lumpini Thai Boxing gym in the south of England.

There's a glove brand he puts in high regard called Sandee, sorry to confuse!

That's awesome. I just checked out the gloves and I think I've found the ones. Now, the small matter of choosing which colour to go for!

Thanks a lot!

EDIT - I'm going to get a white pair of Fairtex BGV1, 14oz from your site, sorted!

I've actually always wondered about "Sandee" products...I see them every so often in articles and photos...but I've never seen anybody training with them in person...

I always thought they were somehow related to Windy b/c the logo looks so similar, and considering it seems like all the Thai brands are connected in one way or another...

fairtex are made with westerners in mind so they are a little more forgiving to larger hands.
