Mouthguard for Braces

I'm looking for a good mouthguard for my braces, which I have on my upper and lower teeth, so I would want a double. I was told to consult my dentist for a custom mouthguard, and I did and it was around $350. The price is OK for me, but what if my teeth move every month since I have braces? Won't I need a new mouthguard every month because my old custom one won't fit anymore? I wasn't too ready to pay all of that money if it wouldn't last me at least 6 months-1 year. I REALLY want to begin my MMA training, and I don't want this to stop me.

I found this POWRGARD mouthguard 4 braces but i'm not sure if its worth it or not.

Any opinions?

I'd wait until you get out of them. MMA is not going to go anywhere.

I had a HELL of a time finding one for wrestling and settled for just a hard rubber one that just covers my braces, but it doesn't really have impact protection or anything

To the OP.

Ask your dentist how often you'll need a new guard with your teeth moving.

If you really want to start training now, train but with no contact. Just learn techniques. Then when the braces are off, you can start sparring and putting together everything you've learned.

OP, Flounder has given some very sound advice here, the only thing I would add is to still have in an over-the-counter double, designed for wear with braces, even though it is "no-contact". There will be some shifting going on and having the wrong custom in is like wearing a retainer that doesn't fit, if you have it in for long periods of time, it could actually make your teeth sore from the moving they are already going through, i.e. getting in a new wire, etc.

Shock Doctor makes THIS mouth guard specificly for braces. You don't boil&bite it which is good because you don't want that stuff getting caught in your hardware.

I wrestled and played football in HS with braces with (almost) no issues. I just replaced my mouth guard every season. The little month to month movements didn't really seem to make a huge difference in the way it fit. I am sure that after a year it would not fit anymore, but by then I had long tossed the mouth piece.
