Icon14 Shevlin Boxing Gloves

This is a short review for Shevlin's Training boxing gloves. They are 12oz so they are for the heavy bag and pads.

The quality of the gloves is excellent. Excellent leather, great padding, easy to make a fist, and they look beautiful. Mine are white, which will be self evident if I can ever figure out how to post pics.

The lining inside is not nylon, they have a slightly more clothy feel to them, but not as much as my Flores gloves. The shape is very similar to my Flores gloves as may be expected as they are both classic style gloves. The hand compartment is snug on both the gloves, which I am fine with. The padding or fill is different as the Flores uses the old horse hair/foam padding and has a grainy feel to it, where the Shevlins have a very soft, but not spungy feel to them. Spungy meaning like a Mexican glove, specifically Reyes or Boxing Classics. Overall quality would be a 9 or maybe 9.5 compared to a Flores 10. Its VERY close.

I took them to Downtown Cleveland today and tried em out on the heavy bag for five rounds. Wow. Very impressive protection. They fit and feel great and I practically forgot I had them on.
Their protection after this short time using them is very close to my Winnings glove, and I definitely prefer how they feel with the unique liner.

I have two gripes with the gloves I took into my possession.

One was that I ordered a triple cuff ala Reyes or Flores or Promex Training gloves. I got instead a cuff with 3 stitch lines in it.

Two, the grip hose is twice the diameter of any other glove Ive ever owned. Its really huge. I was concerned for my knuckles when I saw it, but I didnt feel any problems while hitting the heavy bag with hard shots.

I emailed Shevlin about this and they said both of those issues could be taken care of with the next go around. The only thing I really have a right to gripe about would be the cuff. The Hose is standard on their gloves, but I didnt know about it.

All in all, Im really shocked these gloves have such little acclaim. I whole heartedly recommend these gloves as a very protective training glove. These gloves are a class act and are wonderfully custom made to order.

If someone can post the pics I have Id appreciate it.

KShaft, you have the pics on your harddrive, right? Try using ImageShack® - Image Hosting to upload the pics. I'd love to see the gloves.

The Shevlins cost 95 USD delivered.

75 for the glove. + 10 for the ribbed cuff.

An incredible bargain IMHO.
