Jiu Jitsu Gi Help

Hello everyone,

This is my first post to this forum! I just have a few questions for those more experienced in purchasing jiu jitsu kimons.

I am an A03 size and am debating between purchasing a Gameness Pearl Gi or a Koral MKM Gi.

I like the patchwork on the Koral much better than that of the Gameness, but I would rather have the better quality piece of equipment.

Can anyone offer personal expereinces with either of these gis? Would I better off purchasing the "classic" Koral gi? I am new to bjj and have had others suggest that I go with a single weave gi for day to day use.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
xpo266

I like the look of the Koral better than the Gameness pearl. Plus I know it won't shrink on me so that helps. The MKM and the classic are the same shit. You're paying for the patches.

i have a mkm and a gameness gold weave i like the fit of the gameness better but that's just me it's all about what you like. i realize that a 100 something dollar investment is a little steep just to find out what you like. just be careful with the "mkm" mine has a different cut then the rest, meaning that the A3 that i have fits alot bigger then other peoples A3's that i train with. i don't know where you live but if you can get to an MMA retail store and actually try these GI's on might be able to save you some hard ache in the future. good luck with your search

I'm from the SF Bay Area in California.

Thanks for the input.

I know the MKM is a competition gi. Would it be wise to invest $100 and use it day to day?

What about a judo gi? They are much less pricy,

Thanks again,

the problem with a thicker weave/competition level gi's, is that they are harder to grab onto, so it makes life a little more annoying for your partners in a sense.

Well, man to tell you the truth the Pearl was pretty much inspired buy the Koral. I like the Koral because the collar is thinner and will help you develop and good choke defense. Other then that I hear the Pearl has a great cut and fits better then the Koral. If I had to chose right now I would buy the Koral but, if you are goin to be in the San Jose area soon go to the OTM fight shop. You can try on an feel the Pearl there. Sorry if this confuses you more.

This is really only true in judo tournaments. As far as BJJ goes, the lighter and snug the gi is, the better. The MKM is no more of a competition gi than the Koral classic. They are the same shit except you are paying more to advertise for them.

Yes, a $100+ investment is a little steep, so just be sure to do your homework. I really like the Gameness gis. I like they way the look and guys I train with have no complaints. However, when it was time for me to pick up my gi, the store did not have Gameness in my size (A3). So I opted for a Vulkan and it is great so far.
A couple guys I roll with use their Judo gis and they seem to work fine.

I opted for the Gameness Single Weave. I got an A2. I'm 5'7" 140. It fits pretty big, but I haven't run it through the dryer yet, I want it to shrink, but I'm afraid I'll over shrink it.
