idea for next giveaway

Post a thread like a week before telling future time and date of giveaway, along with what to reply. Then let the thread die or delete it. At time of giveaway, post a new thread saying go, then go from there. This way all the people who don't regularly post or browse won't know, or at least won't know what to reply. Maybe do this once just to give more incetive for the regulars. Just a thought

I gotta ask...

I view my fair share of online forums, for games, hunting/shooting, historical martial arts, and other MMA sites.

Sherdog is the ONLY site I've run across where people seem to think that the post count (reflected by belt colour) actually means something.

I just don't understand why this attitude is so prevalent on Sherdog.

On many of the other forums I visit if one reffered to their post count the same way many sherdoggers do - they'd be ruthlessly mocked off the board. And rightfully so.

I can only figure it's just one of those things unique to sherdog - along with all the haters - that make this site so humorous to me.

if you look in the sprawl giveaway thread.. there is one guy who joined that day his user name was paperdoll.. he joined that day just so he could try and win the mma hoodie.. then after it was over he complained on why he should have one and argued the rules with everyone... its those kinds of people who we are talking about.. people who do not contribute any reviews, advice, or anything useful to the forum for that matter, or those who join that day just so they can score some free gear... so post counts unless they are post whores makes people feel alittle bit better when they recieve free gear...

^^ only when giveaways are happening is when you see a swarm of white belts come out of their little rock, post the phrase, and win. They clearly do not deserve any of it, but as lame as it may be....it is called a FREE giveaway for a reason. Like, I've seen people who don't even post in this section, Who don't even contribute anything to this section and just win the damn thing. There are people who regularly contribute and post stuff related to G&E and do MOST of them win?? Naw..it's the silly white belts who logon, and at the spur of the moment WIN...

Another alternative would be to give prizes based on the contributions to the forum. For example, "the first 10 post win a prize". So someone who doesn't contribute at all in the G&E forum could win a wriststrap, and someone who contributes daily with reviews and constructive posts could win a hoodie/pair of shorts/what he chooses. It would take some days after the giveaway to make a valoration of the user, but I think it would be worthy. What do you people think?

But the original idea is very, very good, and I support it.
