How long should gear last?

Hey

Just wanted to know how long should/did your gear last (ie shorts, rashies, gloves, headgear). The reason I ask is I started traing frequently 01/07 I have 4 pair of shorts 2 sprawls and 2 tapouts. I usually only wear them each once a week maybe twice. I was at a tournament last weekend and noticed on my red sprawls the velcro is starting to tear off. i bought them in 01/07. So I guess my question is how long should shorts hold up under normal wear and tear? Also feel free to discuss gloves and all other kinds of gear and your experiences.

Cheers

if you're taking care of them, that shouldnt happen.

my gloves, and my first pair of sprawls are STILL in tact, and thats like 3 years old now.

Foz is right, your gear should last a lot longer if your taking care of it, maybe you just got a defective pair of shorts, it wouldn't hurt to contact who you bought them from, maybe they can tell you if other people have had any problems with the gear they sold around the same time.
and as far as gloves, a good pair of leather ones should definitely last several years.

True our washing machine monster is very hungry! I find it strange though he only likes the taste of my red sprawls. Maybe I will ask him why when he wakes up this afternoon.

Rashguards will wear out the fastest of the gear you listed. Shorts should last for a couple years as long as they don't get ripped. Headgear and gloves should last for a long time.

All of these approximate times are due to the variations in quality between brands, but IMO:

Rashguard - 1 to 3 years
Shorts - 2 - 3 years
Gloves, headgear, other leather goods - up to 10 years if you treat them well.

I had a velcro problem once with my Sprawls, but they were only the third generation model.

alot longer than 4-5 months, sprawl usually has VERY high quality products...velcro is pretty easy to fix though...rashguards wear pretty fast like said before...cheap ass rash guards lasts a little less than sprawl and other name brands...but for over twice the price its not really worth it imo

Personally, even my Walmart/Target shit seems like it's gonna last forever. I do notice some wear on my gloves and gi though. Hopefully truth will be selling training gloves soon.
