Help! Reasons why Freestanding bags suck.

Since my mom is stubborn and doesn't understand MMA, I'd like to ask my fellow Sherdoggers to list reasons why a freestanding bag suck, compared to a thai bag hanged on a stand (Both of these options aren't great, but a freestanding bag just suck.)

Thanks in advance, and I'll start if off.

Freestanding bags suck because of the lack of surface area availible for striking.

A) LOUD - Freestanding bags usually rock and shimmy around during abuse, even if they are on a padded floor, they can cause lots of unnecessary noise. Even with a padded base, they cause more noise than a hanging bag.

B) Damage floors - As referenced above, unless you have the bag stand sitting on some rubber pad or something, as the bag moves around it is possible to scuff the floor/rip the carpet.

C) Floor/Wall vibrations - Any bag can cause vibrations in the surrounding structure, but if you search some threads on freestanding bags, you'll hear numerous concerns about vibration (mostly in the case of people having landlords). With a hanging bag, a spring helps absorb alot of the vibrations. Also, if you're using a bag stand, it has a wider base, which prevents too much weight and movement in one spot.

D) Investment - Ask around the board, I'm not sure if anyone who regularly used a freestanding bag had it last more than a year. The warranties aren't that great either, so once it starts to break, if you don't know a handy man, you could quickly be out of a decent sized investment.

And all of that is before the practical reasons. Larger area allows for more types of strikes (Try a flying knee on a freestanding bag...). Less weight/density so it doesn't have as good of a feel to striking it.

I'll lend you my wavemaster for a week. Then when your mother wants the damn thing gone, you can get your hanging bag.

I had one of those everlast freestanding units. pulverized it in less than a month. It was literally
destroyed. Took it back and ordered a 6ft bag from MMAMUSCLE.com

The bags themselves are too light and bounce around too much.It is like having a very large DEB that when you hit it it flies back and forward.(This applies to the free standing ones on a sprung base)

The damn things slide around all over the place and can tip over too...

They also seep out sand etc from my experiences even when zipped up.

With a proper heavy bag you have a definate solidity of impact, good for conditionning and feeling what a punch actually feels like when it connects.

You can adjust a heavy bag and make it harder/softer according to your needs.

you can clinch with a proper bag and move around using it for shots, simulating a clinch and close in work.Hard to do that with a free standing bag which only moves/tips when it is not supposed to....

With the movement of a heavy bag(swaying etc)it forces you to adjust your feet and move with it.With the freestanding ones it is easy just to stay static and remain where you are as they do not(in theory!!! )move.

Think about it if you ever have to move...you need to take out the sand..messy!!!!(done it).

having no problems with my wavemaster to be honest. its on carpet so tis quite. filled to the brim so its pretty heavy. i just move around it to stop it going across the room.

was a better alternative to me than drilling holes in my wall/ceiling

I got a BOB and I prefer it to the bag. I put it on a mat so no problems with the noise and bruises. And you can trow even a flying knee on it! So not all freestanding bags sucks and I got it allready more than a year now.
