Heavy Bags *warning*

I just bought an Everlast heavy bag combo at a sporting goods store (Big 5 Everlast Classic Heavy Bag) this afternoon, and working out on it 10 minutes ago in the evening, it tore! One of the patch like things sewn to the ****l hook has torn and I am going to return it tomorrow. The major reason could be that the bag is made out of canvas. Is this typical for canvas bags? Since I am returning this set up, do any of you have suggestions for a beginner on a budget? Thanks in advance...

supersudo- When I saw the tear, my first reaction was that it was a defect. But looking at it even more, it seemed like it would have given way in time anyway. That's why I was wondering if it was common with all canvas bags, regardless, it tore way too soon for any reason. Thanks for the reply.

anvar- Can you suggest a store/shop that would sell decent heavy bags? Anything but online, please! Hahaha thanks.

All recommendations welcome!

ask around. really.

alot of people buy bags and end up never using them; you might find a really good deal from your friend's friend or whatnot.

Man, that sucks. IMO the best bags are made of canvas. It sounds like a bad sewing job on the patch thingy.

Try Craigslist for sure.

wrong.. as long as the bag isn't made of vinyl.. the bag should be quality... canvas and leather are the ONLY 2 types of heavy bags u should ever consider getting..

everlast makes great bags and they're sold in almost all sporting good stores..

You might also want to try an excercise equipment store, ie the kind that sells treadmills, home gyms, etc.
