Shinguard or Instep Guard ??

Hey guys hows it going.
I was just wondering something about shin guards.
Now i do Muay Thai and have trained with both types of guards below.

and

Now i commonly see the first one referred to as an instep guard and the other a shin guard.
Now what i am wondering are both of these items "shin guards" and as i am buying one what type of shin guard / instep should i go for (material etc).
Thanks.

true instep guards only cover the instep of the foot (i.e. the bottom part of the shinguard), and the sin is not covered at all. instep guards are big in the TKD community because of the lack of shin contact.

I sould say get leather shinguards with an instep, avoid the professional modles unless you have tough shins.

I recommend the SP3 model (pro model with padded instep) from Fairtex.
