Heart Rate Monitor
Don't think i've seen any threads on HRMs but I just picked up a Polar F11 the other day using christmas gift certificates. I've never used one but this model seemed to get good reviews. After I work out with it for a month or two i'll post my own review.
Anyone else use these things? I probably wouldn't have bought one without the gift certificates but now I'm kind of pumped to start using it.

I've never understood the idea of the whole HRM concept.....Do you try to keep your heart rate up?! or something....someone shed some light on my uneducated dumbass. thx
P.S Why are they a crucial part of training?!..

I don't want to look for a source right now, but HRMs let you know how well you are recovering, for instance if your peak workout heartrate is 180 BPM your heartrate should drop 25% or more within a minute of end of exercise to be considered in good shape, also HRMs map out your heartrate during your total exercise. If you start working out and have a peak of 180 BPM and a month later it is lower, then that means your heart doesn't need to work as hard to provide oxygen to your body. You can also tell if you are overtraining by your heartrate but I don't know the method off the top of my head.

Timex Ironmans are really good watches. Not sure about any of the extra functions but, the basic watch is very well tested. It is one of the few watches that NASA has approved to be worn by astronauts during missions.

I don't know how much they cost but, they should be relatively inexpensive. Oh, and mackz is that a Samurai Champloo avatar?

I was just asking I am huge anime fan. It looked like Mugen I just wasn't sure about the hair color. I haven't watched that anime for a long time. I think it has been a year since it ended but, I don't remember.
