Heart Rate Monitor?

I want to get into a more scientific way of doing my cardio and focus on my heart rate. What should I look for in a Heart Rate Monitor? Any suggestions on brand or model? Are they even worth the money?

Thanks for the help.

Hmmm, I think they are all pretty standard. You might really want to think about whether you actually need one. You can just run sprints and take your pulse afterwards to track your recovery.

i use one. its great! theyre like a tachometer for your heat. you know when youre going full throttle or not. my cardio was upped dramatic when i knew if i was working hard or not.

i bought a cheap Polar HR monitor on ebay for $30. all it does is show me my HR and total time i was working out. when you turn it off, it shows the my average HR for the workout. i really like it.

Hmmm..i always wanted one but was scared off buy the high prices...perhaps i'll start looking in craig's list or ebay

Damn....lots of different ones on ebay ranging from $20 to $300....so Polar is a brand that'll actually work? I get scared of buying something that won't work when there's a price spread that big.

polar is a very reputable brand and you can get something decent without dropping to much coin. be careful though, they pack a lot of shit on to some of those models making them very complicated when your first getting started.

Thanks for the heads up...yeah i just wanna know heart rate and perhaps stuff like average heart rate over a given time period....that's about it. I'll start looking into their base models.

They are not the same at all-look around get what you want and need without excess stuff.

I have the Polar S210- it has it all. I have the 5 exercise profiles programmed for my different workouts- tabata intervals, bag rounds, etc. It beeps when I go in and out of whatever target I want to be in.
