HCK Gi's

Hello,

I would like to buy a HCK gi and I'm thinking about Standard Single and Competition Single..
1. What's the difference between them (I only know that standard have 15 oz weigh of thickness and competition have 20oz)?
2. I'd like to know something more about the pants (are they baggy etc.) because pants from my KWON gi were rly too big and too bagy (perfect for sumo wrestler..).
3. Could you post a picture of your gi (I'd like to see it because this picture on the HCK site isn't in good quality )?
4. I'd like to know what size of HCK gi i should have. I am 176cm (about 5' 10.2") tall and 72kg (about 158.7 lbs) weight. I was thinking about 5, or 5 - top, 4 - pants.
5. Finally will it shrink after washing?

Hope somebody will post and maybe paste some photos

get 4 everything imo, i'm 175 cm and 68 kg and the top has plenty of room, i'm planning on gaining weight and it should still fit me fine.

It does shrink, i tried the A4 on before washing and it was very loose, sleeves were very long..after washing..fitted quite nicely.

Pants are abit baggy but since its my first gi, nothing to compare to.

I have a fuji coming....i think i might like that better.

I've read this thread and I have another questions..
Do you think that the unbleached one shrink because it was Single Standard or because it was unbleached?
Honestly I was thinking about buying Single Standard but now I rly don't know which size should I choose and should I get unbleached or white?

Any suggestions?

My suggestion to you is to call them and speak to Howard. You sound like a size 5.

FYI, the Competition Single is about the same thickness as most doubleweaves. It is an awesome gi tho. Can't go wrong with either choice.. just depends on how thick u want to go.

5top, 4 pants is the way to go.

IMO competition single is way better than standard single. it also has a more tailored cut. standard weave is cut diffrent to accomodate major shrinkage. the comp single doesn't shrink too much-that is if you hang dry

Competition single is heavier than the standard single, but the material is a bit smoother.

The pants are relatively baggy, though not ridiculously so. If it's a concern, you could go down a size in the pants and you would probably be fine.

Since you are concerned about the pants being baggy, I would recommend you go with a 4/4. I am 5'8'', about 155lbs and the 4 top 4 pants fit me fine. Though keep in mind that it will shrink a bit, and you need to take care to shrink it to fit you. I have not put mine in the dryer, as it fits fine now and I don't want to run the risk of it getting smaller.

I would post some photos, but honestly I'm just too lazy. It looks exactly like it does on the website. Hope this helps.

The unbleached will shrink because it is the standard single. Unbleached and bleached should not have any meaningful effect on the shrinkage once you purchase it.

Considering your size, I would recommend a 4 top, 4 bottom. If you don't like the idea of even moderately baggy pants, go with a 4/3.

As for color, it's just personal preference. I bought an unbleached, and honestly it doesn't look that much different. The bleached would not have been worth $20 in my opinion.

Good luck.

There's nothing wrong with a Fuji. They have gotten some good reviews on this site.

Personally, I would go with the HCK. Howard has a long history of putting out good products, with proven results and a lot of satisfied customers. Fuji is relatively new, and still more or less unproven in my opinion.

Also, be careful when purchasing a Fuji. They make both a BJJ and a Judo uniform, so you want to make sure that you get whichever one it is that you are looking for. It can be difficult to figure out which one is being sold on some sites.

HCK also sells a Judo and a BJJ uniform. The BJJ uniform is a little bit baggier than a true BJJ cut, and will be more loose than the Fuji BJJ gi.

Either way, good luck and let us know what you decide.

Could you measure the wide of sleeves when they are fully stretched? I've read here that the sleeves measure is 6" (15cm) and the pants measure is 9" (24cm) in Fuji Gi (ofc. in diameter).
