Fight Short..do you prefer silk screened or embroidered?

We are desiging some fight shorts right now that we are going to launch in September. We have figured out how they will be made and the design that we will have on them. The last thing that we are trying to determine is if we are going to use silkscreening for the art on them, or embroidery, or a combination of the two.

I have a pair of Throwdown shorts that I have had for a long time now and they have silk screened artwork on them. They held up really well and the art on the shorts faded and cracked a bit over time, but I kind of liked the look of them after they got some wear to them.

I also have some OTM shorts that are embroidered and I really like those as well and they held up really well. I also have a pair of Fairtex shorts and the embroidery started to rip apart a bit and threads started to come loose.

So the pros and the cons of both of them are this, in my opinion:

Silkscreened: Shorts have a lighter feel to them and the embroidery doesn't rub against your skin at all. When surfing in boardshots if there are any kind of embroidery on the shorts you get bad schafing on your skin where ever there is embroidery, but I have not had this problem when training in any kind of fight shorts with embroidery. Another con (some people like this look though) is that silkscreening might start to fade and crack a bit after extensive wear.

Embroidery: The embroidery can sometimes irritate your skin. The embroidery can sometimes start to fall apart with extensive training. The pros are that if the embroidery holds up like the OTM shorts there will not be any fading or cracking.

What do you guys prefer? Anything to add to the pros and cons? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I like embroidery better. It doesnt irrate my skin due to my compression shorts. Another thing, i dont think the embroidery will come off as fast as silk screen would fade/crack.

I don't really have astrong preference, but the main point is that whatever you decide to use, it has to be of really high quality. Poor/average quality of either type will fall apart fast and after only a few washings will look like shite, pardon my french.

Just make it look really nice and hold up well, and people will buy 'em.

If you did force me to pick one at gunpoint... then I'd say high quality embroidery is slightly > high quality silkscreen.

I'd say a combo of both.

We will definitely do what ever we do in very high quality..that is what we believe sets us apart from a lot of other MMA companies out there. I think you are right on poor/average quality of either type falling apart. I guess it get's back to that old saying: "It's now what you do...it's how you do it."

Thanks for the great feedback bro!

That might just be what we end up going with. I haven't seen anyone doing that yet. Thanks!

We will take that into consideration. Thanks! The compression shorts do help...maybe we should make them old school 80's swim trunk style and put some built in compression shorts in the shorts..haha!

1 vote for high quality embroidery. It's just personal preference I guess.

As for the chaffing, like someone mentioned before compression shorts prevents it.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of embroidery but do understand the difficulties involved. For best results, you may end up wanting to do some sort of combo like the others had suggested.

I only have one pair of shorts, the black Gameness ones with the big white embroidered letters.

I like them.
