I've also read that some schools have dark blue belts above purple.

so the kyu is

White
light blue
Purple
Dark blue
Brown
Black

there are a zillion different kyu to every one of the hundreds of typed of jiu jitsu.

if your school doesn't have two different classes for blue, then just use whatever one looks better to you.

Interesting fact. Did not know that. Thanks for sharing.

I've got issues with any site that sells a dvd set that guarantees a black belt. (re: jiujitsu.net)

you sure you didn't pull that factoid from somewhere else?

Its true our instructor has talked about this before. There is also something about whether you fought or not making a difference too. I'll ask today in class in about 45 mins and get back with ya.

Does anyone know where to get a WAR belt other than brazilianfightwear.com? If brazilianfightwear is my only option, what can I expect to pay in shipping? (I live in Maryland)
I ordered mine from Cara Preta. They are based out of Australia. Because of the exchange rate, I think I only paid like $26 USD. They only operate through email and paypal, no online store. But they are legit, I ordered two belts from there

Cara Preta fight gear Australia: no gi grappling, MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Hmmm. I'm definitely sold on the WAR belt for durability as well the fact that it's made of gi material. That's pretty damn cool whether the one they send me is light or dark.

To anyone else reading, if you were me would you go with Cara Preta or BrazilianFightWear? Just a little uneasy with not having heard of them before, not being able to order directly from the website, and them not being based in the US. That's a killer combo, I already got phone scammed this month, and I'm not about to be "had" again.

Yeah im thinking the same thing. I usually order from BFW and there have good service despite it taking a month to get my products. I want the light blue War belt not the regular one....anyone know which one BFW offers?

UPDATE

I ended up ordering the WAR belt from BrazilianFightWear.com. It took several weeks to get here but luckily I wasn't anxious because I had read from numerous posters that BFW.com stuff takes a while to get here from Brazil.

The belt came in and it was dark blue, just like I wanted. The length was perfect for an A-2 it fit just like my Atama A-2 white belt (maybe slightly shorter). The WAR belt is definitely thicker than my Atama and the gi weave material seems tough...not to mention cool looking. I asked my instructor if I could wear it when the time came, and he said "no problem" and put it in his office. That must have been 4 months ago.

FAST FORWARD TO TODAY

We're playing "King of the Hill". One person starts on their back, everyone else gets in line. If the guy on his back sweeps or submits the first challenger, the next challenger takes their turn in his guard. If the top guy passes the guard, he gets on his back and is the new "King".

I'm in first, on my back. I go through about 5 people until a blue belt passes my guard. I get back in on 2 other occasions, only to be swept by blue belts. On the third attempt from the top, I pass the guard and am King once again. I get paired up with a guy that just received his blue belt about a month ago. This time, my instructor says go until someone taps, no stopping if there's a position change. The main highlights are that I swept him, had an Americana locked in from side control but he escaped, I did a spinning farside armbar from side control, but he locked his arms and stacked me...we're back in my guard, I get an arm triangle locked in (with a little space), he's not tapping, I keep trying to hip out and tighten my grip, but he's somehow hanging on...other things happen but I don't remember, we went for at least 10 minutes.

Out of nowhere my instructor slaps me on the back with the WAR belt that's been sitting in his office somewhere for months. He hands it off and everyone takes turns hitting me on the back with it. He's a traditional guy, I know it sounds like hazing but no one, including my instructor hit me with anything more than I would consider medium power. Today is the greatest day in my BJJ life.
