Closed seam or split seam

I have never purchased a pair of fight shorts before I've always just used mesh shorts during no-gi. But I think its time I purchased something nice, and I was thinking a pair of SPRAWLS would be perfect. Now I know everyone states "its all about preference", but when you've never worn shorts with an open or closed seam, its difficult to know which to choose. Could anyone offer any suggestions or thoughts on the closed seam vs opens seam debate? How functional are the closed seam shorts? Do they provide the same range of motion as the split?

Do you kick a lot or just grapple? I like split seams because they work well for both. Since you are looking at Sprawls I'm guessing they will be for training only so the spit seam won't look out of place since you wouldn't be walking around town in them.

I just grapple. I wouldnt mind getting the closed seam as long asthey dont restrict during training, that is my first concern. But, I've heard the SPRAWLS are extremely comfortable so I wouldnt mind laying around in them too.

closed seams if you're just grappling.the split seams make the fabric fold over and it's annoying when you grapple, and you won't be restricted in movement with the new sprawl closed seams.

i too have the giant quads and find that the split seam makes everything easier
be it grappling, squats or riding the bike

i have huge legs plus i love to kick. I have never had the folding over problem while grappling and i've been wearing split seams now for about 2 years ? My advise, try both, two Sprawls are better than one !!

I don't think I have huge quads. But I do find the closed seam a bit restrictive to the point where they're bottom of the pile and almost encased in a "Break in case of emergency" casing.

I definately prefer the split seams
