BJJ Belt Sizing Question

Hey guys, I've never needed or owned a Gi or belt before. I'm a bit confused on how the sizing works for the belts. Some items will have sizing listed like this:

A1 100.5" (255cm)
A2 109.5" (278cm)
A3 120" (305cm)
A4 130" (330cm)
A5 140" (356cm)

I know the inches and cm refer to the length, but how do I use this information. I know my waist size, there there a rule to this? Multiply by a certain number?

Thanks.

hmm.... what's your waist size?

unless you have a "wasp-ish" waist (like me) i'd say stick with the same size as your gi. you really can't go wrong with that.

Yeah, usually people will get a belt that is the same size as their gi. It seems to be a general guideline that works.

Well my waist size is 30-32. Generally A2 I'm guessing. But I just wanted to know if there was like a trick to deciphering that code.

If you feel like you might get it to small just go once size bigger than your gi. Then if it's a little to big wash it and it will shrink some.

they don't shrink that much... and the last thing you want is a belt that's too big and dangling everywhere. waist size 30-32 = a2 you might even wanna try a1
