I'm not a gearhead, so I can't really answer your questions. However, I bought the 'super bag glove' variety.

This is the Super Bag Gloves that I got.
G&S Heavy Bag Gloves. They are 14oz, designed for heavy bag work. They cost $45.
They feel very solid and comfortable. If you have questions you can email the owner. He'll get back to you in a day or 2. I met him in person, he was a former boxer and his father was a boxer as well. I heard good things about G&S on the web, so I paid a visit since I needed bag gloves. The owner seemed friendly and knowledgeable. Me and another guy talked to him a bit. He answered questions and explained how things were in the older days of boxing, and the boxing gyms/scene in the area.
I found a thread in a boxing forum that praised the G&S gloves, comparing them to other more expensive gloves. It's a great value they say. Amazing quality for that price. I've only used them for a short while, but they definitely feel good to use, and looks like will hold up well. Here's the link to that thread, with pictures,
