Atama Mundials: Model #5 vs Model #7...

So I think I've decided to get an Atama gi from Riofightwear.com (can't argue with a 10% discount), but as I have no experiance with them, I can't choose between a Mundial #5 or a Mundial #7 (though I will say that the #5 has a better look, IMO). I know what atama's website says about em, but does anyone have experiance with both, and if so, which do you prefer.

Thanks.

I have the pants from the O5' really nice trim around the ankle bottoms. Pants are no different from my older ripped atama ones which were 5 year old

dont know about the top :-(

I also like the #5 pants better. The #7 pants were made of an entirely different material- which, to its credit, is ripstop and lighter than the typical gi pants. But they also don't seem to have the same breathability or give as the regular pants.

as for the jackets, I can't say I find fault with either-- both have served me well, with no defects to date.

thanks for the correction. it totally changed the course of this thread, and I'm sure helped the thread starter make a decision. by the way, what's your advice on the mundial 5 vs. the 7?

that said, to contribute-- the #5 weave seems different to me than the #1 and the #7-- they're all gold weaves, I believe, but something about the #5 just seems different to me. It's still light weight like a gold, but the outside maintains an abrasiveness I haven't noted with #1s or #7s. this could, however, be due to the #5 being my newest gi, and hence, not having been washed as much.

I really think you'll be happy with either, the differences really aren't much past aesthetics, aside from the pants thing we have already mentioned. but ask away if you've any nit-picky, specific questions. it's a lot of money to drop and not like what you get.

very strange thing happened at practice today. I finally got a chance to ask one of the blackbelt instructors (today Fernando Yamasaki was teaching) and apparently, I've actually had a DOUBLE WEAVE this whole time! I really thought my Atama was a single and I've been using it (and only it) for a whole year now!

But it makes sense actually, I've been a little afraid to buy a gold weave (even more reluctant to get a double weave) because I thought to myself, if the one I have is is only a single, then the golds and doubles must be insanely thick!

But, Fernando said he would get me a gold weave Atama through the school. Subsequently, Rio_fightwear, I won't be picking up that Mudial from just yet, maybe a month or so down the line. BUT, I did see one or two other things I might need from your store, so I'll be making a purchase soon. Your customer service has been excellent, and I'll definately becomin to you when I need another gi.

Also, if I ever get my blue belt, fist thing I'm doing is grabbing that slick red Mundial you got, that one looks awesome.

Glad to help! I am more interested that people get the right thing even if it is not from me. One gi won't make or break me and I am always OK with getting gear through your school. Support your local school - it's good for all of us. In the mean time, if you need anything else, that Sherdog discount is always good at my place. Email or call if you have any questions! Good luck with your training and keep working for that blue belt!!
