Ankle supports for grappling

What are the best ankle supports to wear for grappling in terms of support? Most of them that I find don't seem to have any support built into them and are more of a sleeve. I also found one by Hayabusa that looks better than most of the rest. Opinions?

I'm sure some will say that they don't like wearing ankle supports and I should work on strengthening my ankle, but I do need a support. Had two pretty severe sprains while wrestling in college and now that I'm grappling I need some extra support. I'm also a strength and conditioning coach, so I am working on strengthening it also.

thanks

I feel like most supports are created equal, but I'm sure that's technically not the case.

Man, I hope your training partners aren't good at ankle locks heel hooks.

Have you tried CagesideMMA? They have several choices of colors.

May not find one that is functional, but you could always check with an orthopedic doctor. They can get their hands on a lot of braces and supports. It may not be a "grappling ankle support" but might work better for your situation.

A couple of guys I train with use the Hayabusa ankle supports. The only real downside to them is that the little red grip dots on the balls of the feel all fall off within the first week of use. They do cover the top of the foot though, keeping mat burn to a minimum. But they're neoprene so they'll stretch out and eventually won't provide satisfactory support. I use cotton muay thai supports even when grappling and find they do the job plus provide points of friction for my guard and rubber guard work. Hope that helps some.

Grapplesock

I've got a pair by Grapplesock, GrappleSock™: Grappling socks created for today's grappler and MMA practioners that are excellent. They are a bit thicker around the ankle area than the others. Good product.

GrappleSock

They look nice. Would you mind posting some detailed pics of your pair sir? I'm in the market for ankle supports for BJJ as i'm recovering from a really bad dislocated ankle 2 months ago that needs support.

Also, I don't mean to derail the thread but I noticed the grapplesocks seem to be on sale too...anyone have any experience with them?

I have been using the socks and the supports for awhile now. I caught a staph infection from a mat twice and after the hospitalization I had had enough. I tried wrestling shoes but found them great for wrestling but less than ideal for grappling. I have commented on these quite a bit on the forums as I really like the product, they really don't feel any different than bare feet but they keep your skin intact. Dan from Grapplesock posts on here sometimes under grplsock and I have dealt with him on a few occasions, shoot him a PM he always returns the message.

Ankle supports for grappling

I use built to fight ankle supports with traction from On The Mat. Got them from On THe Mat fight shop in Vegas.

I use them for MT and Gi less jiujitsu. I would say they provide great ankle support both for stand up and ground. I like to use them for kicking the thai pads and bag they take the sting off when striking with kicks no stinging or redness. They provide alright traction to the mat. But wont protect against foot diseases.OntheMat :: Protection :: Ankle Guards
