Water: cold or room temp?

I've done search on forums but can't seem to find a thread pertaining to this particular discussion. What are the benefits of room temp water? Does drinking cold water hinder fat loss? What do you prefer?

drinking cold water helps fat loss.... ice cold water...

the body burns extra calories to warm the water to body temperature.

I read about this awhile back. As Infamy said, drinking ice cold water does cause your body to burn extra calories because the body must compensate with the drop in temperature by working to bring your body temp back up to normal. While it does burn extra calories, it is nothing earth shattering enough for most people to make a habit of. It also depends on how much water you drink daily, but most of what I read when I was looking into this had around 70 extra calories a day as the normal.

Here is one of the articles I read.

Cold water will burn extra calories, but also use a bit of energy. Nothing too dramatic.
If you're trying to cut, drink cold water.

If not, drink room temp.

I don't think it makes enough of a difference either way.

Even if you burn an extra 100 calories a day from drinking ice cold water, thats only 3% of the calories needed to burn 1 pound of fat (3500 calories).

Your much better off to cut your calories from dieting.

If something as simple as drinking ice cold water can make any difference though, it's worthwhile doing.

Funny I just read about this yesterday in Muscle Mag . You will burn an additional 150 calories a day by drinking cold water due to your body having to work to bring it down to body temperature. I dunno, pretty insignificant but I guess anything helps.

The effect of drinking ice-cold water is negligible.

The results are negliable enough that you are best off to drink water at the temp that you like it. That way you are more likely to drink more of it.

LOL@this myth. Drinking cold water versus warm is NOT going to help you burn any amount of significant calories. 150 extra cals per day? I highly doubt it.

Our fire department recently researched the value of either rehydrating with cold or room temp drinks; a person will absorb room temp drinks faster, therefore rehydrate faster. I don't know what study they cited, but I imagine the actual difference is minimal.

It comes down to personal preference, and the fact that a person IS hydrating properly. I drink room temp water just because I'm too lazy to stick my Brita in the fridge...so I'be gotten to prefer it that way.
