rice and bean diet

Poor mans diet.

I am going to try eating a diet high in very cheap food such as beans and rice. All beans are organic. Mostly kidney and black beans. I actually don't eat much rice, but if I do it will be brown of long grain wild rice.

I also eat many salads, with raw and organic vegetables + balsamic vinegar dressing. I eat a few eggs a day, mostly hard boiled.

So basically the idea is to eat as cheaply as possible, but support the need to maintain a high level of fitness. I train kickboxing/mma 4 days a week. Lift twice a week. Hike and stuff.

I take many vitamins too, and fish/flax oil. I would like to drop body fat, not necessarily lose weight. Can a diet comprised mainly of rice/beans support such goals? Rice/beans are so cheap.

Why do you assume that?

Because that type of food is boring to you? Or because it is unhealthy.

Beans are high in protein and fiber I thought? Brown and wild rice are complex carbs, no?

Yes, you are correct on both. But sorry man, that is not going to be a healthy, or performance based diet.

It's not assuming, that's a fact.

Low income Costa Ricans, but they throw fish and fruit in there from time to time

Many people have been on the diet of various types of fruits and vegetables / beans / grains / nuts / and virtually any type of natural product. It is actually very sustainable, and regardless of what some people like vedic might tell you..A lot of the people that have these type of diets are very healthy. You get enough protein from the beans and rice, you don't need meat in you're diet if it's balanced like that. The only thing needed in meat as a requirement..is vitamin b12, and you can get that from forms of yeast and supplements any way.

My advice would be not to take advice from a guy like vedic..Go and talk to some healthy vegans, and ask what they think about it. I've actually had this organic diet for about 2 weeks now, and I have never had more energy. I box 3 days a week and train in jiu jitsu, and each class My cardio was just significantly better than it's been in the past.

The only thing you need to do is balance the diet. Beans / nuts / various fruits and vegetables / legumes / grains and make sure you get enough vitamin b12 from nutritional yeast / breakfast cereals / or supplements. Like i said, Regardless of what vedic says about this not being a healthy and performance based diet..You simply have to experience yourself how much of a difference it makes in training, in order to believe.

Don't take what he has to say seriously. He has never experienced this type of Organic / non gmo / natural product diet..and doesn't have a right to say that it's fact that it wont be healthy and perforamance based.

Take my word for it..I started eating this way 2 weeks ago. Since last week My cardio has seen a huge increase, same with my hand speed and foot work. I have also lost quite a phew pounds..So in my experience, this diet is healthy..and very performance sustainable. You will also save a significant amount of money since you're not buying any sort of meat products. However one thing you should do is make vegetables / fruits / nuts / flax oil / etc..your main type of food, and make rice and beans your back up for protein.
