Tournament-day nutrition

Hey, so a big tourney (and my first) is this Sunday at Joslin's in Hamilton, Ontario. Since I'm entering both gi and no-gi, odds are I'll be waiting around a lot. Could someone advise me on how best to eat and take the following supplements on the day of the tourney, considering my possible long wait times interspersed with intense matches?

Greens+ : I figure with the phytonutrients (ahem, yeah, I don't really know what that means) it'd be a good idea to take at least one serving of this sometime early in the day.

Proteins+ : Basically a serving is about 28 g protein and a good amount of calcium. I'm still not familiar with how much protein to eat before exercise, as I remember a baseball school when I was young saying that you shouldn't eat protein before exercise, but I know the dude wasn't a nutritionist or anything, and I've read things to the contrary on here before.

Flax seed/fish oil : this shit is nasty and I can do without it, especially with the gut rot it sometiimes gives me. Still, I'll endure it if it's extremely beneficial.

Energy drinks: I like to down about half of one of these before rolling. Just thought I'd add that.

Otherwise, I plan on bringing lots of fruit (easily digestible/light), nuts, and maybe some yogurt. Oh yeah, also tons of water and a bit of sports drink.

So to make clearer what I'm asking: 1/ is it a good idea to bring a bottle or two of the supplements? 2/ if so, when do you think would be the best time to take them and 3/ are the food choices good?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what most people eat but day of tournament (after weigh-in) i'll have...

Nice big breakfast with eggs, whole wheat toast, sausage, bacon, oatmeal.
Drink only water all day. Some people live by energy drinks but I don't care for them to be honest. My first match in a tournament 2 weeks ago was against some guy who just chugged down a huge energy drink and he gassed 2 minutes into the match. Maybe the energy drink got him too hyped and he used up his energy too fast who knows. It's better to be calm and preserve energy anyway. Brain over power my friend. For the afternoon I bring along a few protein bars. That should get you through the day fine.

Thanks for the input. I've been having about half an energy drink pre-practice in the last few weeks and its given me such a noticeable boost in energy, but yeah, overexerting is something I don't want to do and would keep in mind.

This article might be of some help. It doesn't pertain to combat sports directly but I'm sure the ideas and theories carry over to any competition involving endurance.

Well you dont need to cut so I wouldnt bother really being concerned on how much to eat.

I would again fuel up with carbs thursday and friday... Saturday eat some fish and greens. With a gallon of water througout the day.

Sunday (morning of).......Fruit and protien drink....Tuna sanswich for lunch with a small salade.

Just b/c of what you weigh I would just make sure you have enough carbs and I would scrap the energy or gaterade drinks as they are only needed if re hydrating (like me in themorning)....or after a large salt/ electrolite loss.
