Sweet potatoes

I was hoping someone here could help me out. What are the merits of eating sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes? Someone told me sweet potatoes are healthier, but this seems counterintuitive just because they taste better. Also, are yams the same thing as sweet potatoes? Thanks in advance for the help.

The fact that the sweet potatoe is not really a potatoe at all might explain how it can taste better and be healthier than a regular potatoe. You should find all your answers here...

the fact that they taste better has nothing to do with it...unless you're pouring sugar or syrup on them. But the natural taste doesn't make them unhealthy. They're actually a more complex carb than a regular white potato. They won't convert to fat as fast as a white potato. I switched a couple years back from white to sweet.

I believe yams also are also a good antioxident source (vitamin A as Beta Catatine). Its that orange color. They are quite tasty, I agree/

For myself, though, nothing beats a good white potato with sour cream on it.
