My issue is actually falling asleep in the first place; weather it's due to stress or the inability to unwind, I don't know. I'm not keen on working out after 7PM precisely for this fact.

... this has been happening to me more and more lately, here it is 1 am and i just dont feel like sleeping, but im sure tomorrow morning ill feel like sleeping till noon.
i might look into your "gold" stack, anything to get to bed sooner would be money.

It does; I've tried bumping it up to 2-3g, and I feel like total shit in the morning---wicked headache, groggy, lethargic. It goes against the grain, but a smaller dose works for me.

Insomnia is usually the first sign of depression; a couple of years ago I went through some bad shit, and the fist thing to go out the window was my sleep.
Some docs are starting to prescribe low-dose TCAs for insomnia. I was coming across all these patients on really, really low doses, and I was like "WTF is with this weird dose?" and all the patients would tell me is that "it's for sleep". So I asked one of the ER docs one night what was up, and that's how he explained it.

If your not getting into the later stages of sleep then you might be having night arousals which are keeping you from getting deep sleep.

I've been taking Phosphatidyl Serine for a month or so now. Despite my skepticism at the beginning, it really does seem to help. It's not really a sleep aid but it supposedly does a decent job at suppressing cortisol levels. I train very late at night and I have to get to bed shortly afterwards to be up early the next morning. Intense training can really jack up your cortisol levels and if you're training in the evening that can keep you from getting decent sleep. Since PS is a bit pricey, I only take it on my most brutal training days that take place in the evening. That turns out to be 2-3 times a week for me.
Along with PS I take some other sleep aids like the ones mentioned in this thread. I usually rotate through a few different ones to avoid becoming tolerant to any particular one. I have taken these sleep aids without PS though and adding the PS seems to make noticeable difference for me. Keep in mind, if you're not doing fairly intense training late in the evening, PS probably won't do you much good in the sleep department.

I also hear people recommend 5-HTP or tryptophan. How do these compare and are they better then melatonin, ZMA, GABA or phenibut. Also, anyone have experience with phenibut?

melatonin is the only OTC supp that actually helps me sleep, but it has to be sublingual. it's funny how today in one of my classes the prof said that melatonin does absolutely nothing and that it's all placebo effect. whatever, the placebo effect didn't do shit for me when i tried a bunch of other sleep aids.
kava i've found relaxes me, but i'll never take it again due to concerns about liver damage. i don't think anyone should.

I have a tough time staying asleep. Melatonin is the only thing that has helped me I recommended it to everyone I hear or talk to about sleeping problems. Someone also told me that SleepMD works great too. I've never tried it though.

anyone else have experience with these sleep aids. Anyone try tryptophan as well? Is Dymatize Z-Force actual ZMA because I read a review saying it wasn't ZMA although many people have recommended it as a good product.
