Seltzer (Club Soda) as good as regular water?

Just curious if the carbonation of water lessens it's beneficial effects; as in, would drinking 1/2 gallon seltzer contribute to my minimum 1 gallon p/d? I'm sick of regular water, and seltzer is much more palatable when I'm just sitting around doing nothing.

I always heard from cross country guys in high school that they were prohibited from drinking carbonated stuff during the season, something about the c02 in your bloodstream or something that affects athletic performance. But if your not goin for performance I cant see why itd be terrible? I also may be completely wrong so don't read this as fact

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say that Seltzer water wouldn't be alkaline. Might be bad if you're trying to control body pH.

That's really good to know.

At one point, I had thought about using seltzer water for my PWO shakes just to make it kinda like a fizzy malt type drink. I never went through with it out of pure apathy. Now, at least, I know my apathy turned out okay!

Just seems like myth more than a proven method, but i found it kind of interesting that a lot of our BJJ guys who came from Brazil to train at our place prior to Mundials were drinking Seltzer water vs. regular water to help them cut weight during the week before.

I am guessing it is more of a anecdotal type of wieght loss method than anything else, but who knows? Has anyone else ever heard of this or seen people doing this?

The more seltzer/soda water you drink, the more you fart. That is a fact.
You'll also feel really bloated. And maybe burp a lot too.
