Question about Whey

I've heard/read an incredible amount of information on whey but I still have one simple question. Will you gain weight from taking whey?

I should say that I'm trying strictly to lose weight. I don't care if I get big or whatever. Cardio workouts are my main focus. I jump rope A LOT, hit a heavy bag, as well as run and mountain bike. To supplement my workout I also lift weights, but like I said, this is not my emphasis.

So basically I'm trying to cut weight, will whey help?

Gaining or loosing weight is about how many cals you consume and use, or don't use. Whey won't have much bearing in it either way.

No.

Whey will help supplement your diet to build muscle if you're weightlifting, but just taking whey won't automatically put pounds on. Since it's a by-product of coagulation in milk-making, it doesn't have the calories that milk has but is a much more concentrated source of protein.

If you're going to take whey, you might want to use a whey concentrate - it's cheaper, you don't need to ingest it directly after you work out, and it'll last longer in your system. It's a better option if you're weightlifting to get bigger.

But ultimately, I don't think it'd help you much. Just be smart about your diet, eat egg whites, chicken, turkey, nuts, etc. and you'll be getting more than enough protein.

Whether losing weight or not you need to take in a certain number of calories per day for your body to operate:
With Whey, you will be getting calories from protein instead of fueling on calories from carbohydrates, fats and sugars in other foods. I think any unused protien calories find their way to your colon more easily than the other types, but I'm not a nutrition expert.
So if you take whey, be sure to cut out something of equal calorific value that is less healthy

yes, most whey protein powders have 120 calories or so per scoop... so unnecessary if you just want to lose weight and not gain muscle...

just drink water asshole.

If your trying to lose weight remember one thing. Muscle burns calories all day long while your doing anything. Cardio burns calories while you are doing the action, and muscle burns calories no matter what your doing. So main point, make sure you are building muscle.

the first part of this is correct, the second part however is not entirely accurate

it has been well documented in the scientific literature that protein upregulates ****bolism relative to carbohydrates or fats

additionally, water is stored with carbohydrate so you will gain more weight than you might expect. also, if you are not careful about the types of carbohydrates you eat you may provoke a peaked insulin response which will cause the sugar in your blook to be stored as fat leaving you tired, hungry and of course, fat

recent research has shown a positive correlation between consuming whey and caesin pre- and post workout, and an increase in lean body mass

good luck with your training

SOOOO if he only has one scoop of whey per day and thats it he will gain weight?...your body needs protein to lose weight or gain it....the only way to lose weight is to take in less calories than your body needs to stay at the weight your at..to gain weight you consume more calories than your body needs...LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS...since he is doing alot of cardio then he will need carbs for the enrgy to perform a high stress regiment and also protein to repair and rebuild the muscles he has broken down...and why is he an asshole...BEING A WHITE BELT WITH A SHIIIIITY POST, AND UNCALLED FOR REMARKS YOU JUST SHOWED EVERYONE WHO THE ASS CLOWN IS

it's whey protein not weight gainer
i'd say if you're not sure about it then just stick to a solid nutrition(which you should already have) program, you're low glycemic foods, lean meats, etc and have a light snack between meals so you won't need to eat as much when mealtime comes
you can also try taking a fat burner like hydroxycut before your workouts, it's what bodybuilders do in the season when they wanna get shredded
