OT: Propecia studies. To People who are good at reading studies
Hey, this is off topic, and it seems that a lot of the guys here are really good at looking at studies.
I'm considering taking it. Looking at the study, it seems that there is very low risk for sexual side affects. But I'm not too sure:
Possible side effects of PROPECIAŽ (finasteride) 1mg

hey i'm on avodart (dutasteride). my libido suffered a mild slump but eventually recovered. it's been about 5-6 months now, and i have to say it's working much better than i had hoped. granted, i started before my hair loss got too severe. 95% of my hair loss has stopped and and i've started regrowing in areas i thought were a lost cause (ie the more barren parts of my M-line). combine it with rogaine for increased efficacy.
i say give it a shot. if you don't like how you feel on it you can quit.
ftr i'm 36, started losing hair about 11 years ago. fought it with rogaine successfully for a while, but eventually the rate of loss overwhelmed the benefit of rogaine alone. ymmv.

It's only inappropriate because that's not a study.

I actually tried this stuff a few years ago. Stopped using it because it was just too expensive for me to afford at the time.

i know over 20 + people that have taken this
only one person had any sexual sides, but he was taking 5 mg/day
in most cases, 1.25 every day or every other day is enough to prevent hair loss, with little side effects .

I have not taken it, but I've read a few people complaining that it killed their libido and the side effects did not go away even when they stopped taking it. I've also read that the DHT is converted to estrogen, which is why gyno is a possible side-effect. Even though I'm not balding, I have tried Minoxidil. I felt my hairline might have receded slightly, so I gave it a try. I saw hair growth in 5 days. Interestingly, I've also read that Minoxidil (slightly) upregulates 5-ar reductase and 17beta-HSD in the scalp. I believe 5-ar reductase is what converts T into DHT, leading to hair loss. 17beta-HSD seems to play a major part in hormone production, so I believe it's capable of conversion to several hormones. They don't know how Minoxidil works, but they think 17beta-HSD might have something to do with it.

I tried monoxidil as well but because you have to spray it on and leave it, it left my hair looking wet which isn't good when you're thinning.

Costco has this now, so you might be able to afford it. Costco also has their own brand of mixidol for dirt cheap.
Btw, I noticed more hair when I took high fish oil doses (15 grams a day), probably due to blood thinning affects.
Any other products/tips you recommend?

You noticed more hair gone on fish oil? Odd, considering fish oil is supposedly anti-inflammatory. I'm not an authority on the subject of MPB but I'm pretty sure that there's more than one mechanism that can lead to it.

no no, more hair on my head. I got more hair when I was on fish oil. But this is when I had normal hair density, then I got above average hair density. But in the past year it's gone from above average to below average . I upped my dosage to 20 for a while. Didn't come back.
I read in another thread you're taking some herbal dht block (as you can tell I'm freaking otu and reading every thread on hte subject.). What was that.
Btw, I heard soy and cructificious (sp?) veggies help.
