I'm stuck on orange creamsicle for PWO, I'm afraid of change.

I'm also going to give Team Skip a whirl as an anytime mix.

Monger & MM: I have broken free of my Glutamine shackles...I'm glutamine free. Thanks for the tips boys.

Thanks for the site and info. I just put together an order w/ the Premium Dutch Chocolate Fudge. Has anyone tried that yet?

Double thumbs up for anyone wanting a new flavor. The citrusy lime taste masks the bitterness extremely well.

I was just reading the blurb (and yes i understand that it's marketing!) on Surge and it quotes:

Quote:
Well, we're not stupid (most of the time, anyway). This formula may be one of the most powerful supplements to ever hit the market. We know that, and our competitors know it. Accordingly, we want to protect our investment in the formula, plus we need to be compensated for our efforts.

After all, fair is fair. We paid the R-and-D price, and we had the ingenuity and know-how to successfully accomplish the goal. It wasn't easy, either. If simply throwing some glucose, maltodextrin, whey-protein hydrolysate, and BCCAs into a few ounces of water was effective, we wouldn't have made the formula.

But that wasn't the case at all. To make the drink produce the anabolic/anti-catabolic effects we were after, we had to spend a lot of time in the lab testing our theories. And I'm here to tell you it's tough to make this stuff and get everything right.
What does surge have that this formula doesn't? And why would mixing it yourself not be as effective?

And this was taken from Berardi's site:

Quote:
Q: When I read the back of the label of Biotest Surge, it looks like there are only a few measley grams of glutamine and BCAAs! Heck, my protein powder provides more than this. What gives?

A: This is an issue many people are confused about, but the answer is simple. The label lists the ADDITIONAL amino acids that have been ADDED to those already present in the special whey protein hydrolysate mix we chose for this forumla. So basically, although the label lists 3 grams of L-Glutamine, 3g of Phenylalanine, 2.25g of L-Leucine, 1.75g of L-Valine, and 1.25g of L-IsoLeucine, there are much more of each amino acid in each serving. In fact, the total content of these 5 amino acids amounts to greater than 25 total grams of amino acids!

Now, we couldn't give you the exact totals of each amino acid, could we? This would mean giving away the research-tested ratios of BCAA and glutamine that have proven so effective in several studies.

For you savvy rival supplement manufacturers who think you can look at the amino acid content of regular whey protein hydrolysates to come up with the exact totals, think again. The amino acid content of different whey hydrolysates can vary by several percentage points, so while you may be able to get close to our formula, you won't know the exact formula unless you break into Tim Patterson's office and steal it!

It's just bullshit, dude. We can all read the ingredients on the back of the tub. Unless they're out right lying on the nutritional label the product can be simulated very effectively mixing it up your self. Can you make it exactly the same, probably not. Can you make it so that there’s not a significant performance difference, probably.

Seriously, how much different could the BCAA ratio's be in a whey hydrolysate? Yes, they can be different but we're talking about a couple of grams of one amino vs. another and in the big picture I don't see it being that significant. Especially when you can add your own BCAA's and it seems more is better in that area.

Thanks for the insight.

Funnily enough, Surge and making it myself work out the same in the UK based on price per serving. Dunno what to do, seems expensive so i might just stick with phd synergy and a couple of bananas for now.
