microwaves degrading/toxicating food?

a bit biased, but quotes clinical studies showing how microwaving foods alters the nutrition
http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm

"Production of unnatural molecules is inevitable. Naturally occurring amino acids have been observed to undergo isomeric changes (changes in shape morphing) as well as transformation into toxic forms, under the impact of microwaves produced in ovens."

"Hertel's scientific study was done along with Dr. Bernard H. Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University Institute for Biochemistry.

In intervals of two to five days, the volunteers in the study received one of the following food variants on an empty stomach: (1) raw milk; (2) the same milk conventionally cooked; (3) pasteurized milk; (4) the same raw milks cooked in a microwave oven; (5) raw vegetables from an organic farm; (6) the same vegetables cooked conventionally; (7) the same vegetables frozen and defrosted in a microwave oven; and (8) the same vegetables cooked in the microwave oven.

Once the volunteers were isolated, blood samples were taken from every volunteer immediately before eating. Then, blood samples were taken at defined intervals after eating from the above milk or vegetable preparations.

Significant changes were discovered in the blood samples from the intervals following the foods cooked in the microwave oven. These changes included a decrease in all hemoglobin and cholesterol values, especially the ratio of HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) values.

Lymphocytes (white blood cells) showed a more distinct short-term decrease following the intake of microwaved food than after the intake of all the other variants. Each of these indicators pointed to degeneration."

doesnt look good fellas.....

Hmm, interesting. I've seen/heard of similar studies, and about a year ago there was a thread on this where it was pretty much debunked, but that's because the studies were from late '70s or something.

What does this

mean exactly?

And I wonder what (if any) were the other changes noticed when cooked in a conventional oven.

yeah form an Electrical Engineering perspective I have trouble believing that Electromagnetic Waves from a microwave alter your food enough to make it dangerous

1) This guy is obviously selling something, the nutritional program. This article is designed specifically to scare people. Alarmism, it's the new News.

2) Statements like "they are supposedly different than x-rays" are misleading, purposefully misleading. Microwaves ARE different than x-rays. Simple physics, microwaves are low energy radiation, less than visible light. Whereas x-rays are high energy radiation. Not drawing the distinction is very irresponsible.

3) The body being electrochemical has nothing to do with heating food in a microwave. I'd love to see Medical evidence that states otherwise.

4) Heating blood is not the same as heating food. For all basic purposes blood can be considered a living thing. Enzymes, hemoglobin, those are what's likely disrupted by microwaving blood, not to mention that the heating process could have tentatively made the blood hot enough to kill a person in some places and not at all in others, depending on the water molecules. Way to not actually explain something designed to scare.

5) You mean I can brainwash people with a microwave? Great, I'm going to do an experiment and use the popcorn setting to see if I can get anal sex from a girl out of it.

Welcome to junk science 101.

lol Smart move. Because I really don't care who it is.

The "effects" are all horseshit. Microwaving food doesn't change it, nothing in the article backs that up.

So i guess the whole "microwaving foods destroys nutrients" thing is just another myth, huh? thanks for discussing, i was hoping it was hype.

Heating food period destroys nutrients. I'd like to see scientific evidence that this is statistically exaggerated by changing the heat source to the degree where it's detrimental to human consumption. That's the contention of the article, Microwaving food doesn't just destroy nutrients, it makes it dangerous to consume. Unfortunately, nothing in the article confirms that.
