You want to get around 3 grams of DHA/EPA combined

So basically you're getting 480 mg EPA and 400 mg DHA = 880 mg(combined) per serving.

3 grams a day? Is that what is the average ammount of omega-6's people get a day? John Berardi reccomends we consume a 50:50 ration of omega 3's to omega 6's.

"In my estimation, a diet containing 25-35% of the total energy from fat
is optimal. Once you get this right, the next step is to consciously attempt to
get about 1/3 of your fat from saturates, 1/3 from monounsaturates, and 1/3 from polyunsaturates (with a 50:50 ratio of omega 3s and omega 6s)."

Whoever recommended that was probably referring to 6 grams of actual fish oil a day which will usually yield 300 mg of combined DHA/EPA per gram of oil.

There was a study posted here a while back that showed 3 grams being the top end that someone should take. Aim for somewhere near 3 grams a day, it doesn't have to be 3 grams EXACTLY. For the average North American, anything close to 3 grams a day is probably way more than what they would normally get.

The average North American probably gets way more than 3 grams of Omega 6's per day. Further supplementation of Omega 3's is what will balance the ratio out.

So wouldn't we need to get way more than 3 grams of omega-3's to get a 50:50 ratio?

With out supplementation, "Modern diets have a ratio of 20 or 30:1" (Berardi).

If you limit your intake of vegetable oils (olive oil, peanut oil, corn oil, etc.) and you eat only grass-fed meat, then it shouldn't be an issue if you supplement with fish oil.
