Keeping a shake on your bedstand to drink when you wake up at night?
I just got the anabolic index and after reading about 50 pages it says that drinking a shake in the middle of the night is a great idea IF it doesnt affect your sleeping, as it would with many people.
So i was thinking of making a shake with water, and leaving it on my nightstand so that when i wake up in the middle of the night i could chug it down real quick and then fall back asleep. Or if i wake up at 5am to take a piss i could chug it down real quick and then go back to bed.
Does anyone here do that? Do you think the shake, made with water and not milk, would still be ok to drink after sitting there for 6 hours?
Thanks for the help guys.

My question is, why? It's splitting hairs and it won't help with REM sleep patterns.

^^^ I agree with Vedic on this one.Restful sleep should take priority over an extra serving of protein in the middle of the night.

If if keeps you from starting an "I can't gain weight" thread, go for it.
I can't remember where I read it, but someone in the biz suggested drinking a bunch of water before bed so your body naturally awakens (rather than by alarm) to urinate. Drink your shake then.
Might have been Lyle MacDonald, now that I think of it.

i agree with vedic, it will interfere your bodies ability to repair itself during sleep.
a whey shake made with water would stink like assholes after 6 hours.
buy BCAA pills, wake up and pop 4 during the night

Im not sure how to take this since ive never started a thread like that. You must be confusing me for someone else, or maybe you didnt mean to sound like an asshole and im taking it wrong?

That is what David Barr suggests in the book for most people. I dont know if yellow bed sheets is worth it though.

From my understanding of the book it is to keep the amino acid levels in your blood up so you do not go into a catabolic state. I guess like an extension to your night time shake.
Maybe there will be more explanation once i finish the book.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean YOU, I meant people in general. I apologize for creating that confusion.
I think the important thing isn't so much about the steady supply of amino acids (although that may play a part in this) but rather about enabling people who have a hard time gaining weight to consume more calories.

I've never prescribed to the "night-time, sustained, timed released protein before bed.
Everything about it goes against my school of thought.
You can't expect to sleep well with food in your stomach, it doesn't allow your body to fully rest. Many systems will be at work digesting and processing the load of shit in your gut.
