Lifestyle changes vs fad diets.

I have seen alot of people on here wanting tips on cutting weight for fights. For this there are alot of 2 or 3 week diets that will work great for this and most will never have a problem with. That being said I have also seen people on here asking for tips on diets to lose weight and stay healthy (please not these are two very different things) and in my opinion fad diets including 0 carb diet, soup diet, veggie diet and so on will not work for most people as far as loseing weight and keeping it off and staying healthy. So I wanted to start a thread that is only for those people that want to lose weight because they are not happy with their bodies right now and want to lose it and keep it off, so if you have any tips for people like that please post in here.

A couple of my suggestions are as follows:

Low fat diet:

-oatmeal

-egg whites (Maybe on or 2 yolks)

- Lean Meats (chicken,lean pork,lean ground beef, fish,Turkey)

- Lots of Green Veggies (potatoes are ok in moderation same with corn and peas)

- Fruits

- Peanut Butter

- Whole wheat bread (in moderation)

- Fat free Yogurt

- water or crystal light

Please note there are other things good to eat on this diet also just giving examples here, also any spice is ok and always drink lots of water.

You can also count Carolries although weight loss will probably be slower than the diet mentioned above. Example a guy my size 5'9 175lbs would need about 1700 calories per day and if you work out regularly you would want to boost that up to about 2000 to 2200 per day.

One last thing is for anything to stick I believe that you do have to indulge yourself now and then and eat what you want. But thats maybe once every couple weeks maybe even once a week if weight loss is going well.

Anyone else have ideas for these guys?

Ok why are those things bad, first off why is a low fat diet crazy? Alot of Nutritionist recomend this. How many calories should a 175 lbs man eat with and without working out?

ya, alot of nutritionist are operating on info from the fucking 80's too. Our own government has finally figured out that fat is good as long as it's not excessively one type or transfat. And a 175 lb man would be much better off taking in somewhere around 2800-3000 calories a day of clean foods. As KK's post completly laid out (i'm not looking it up, you can if you want) one calorie isn't one calorie when you're talking about a 300 calorie 96% lean burger on sprouted grain bread versus a 300 calorie burger of 80/20 beef on a white bun w/ big mac sauce.

I already corrected myself on the calorie thing, and the low fat diet is still full of essential fats especially the fish, eggs and peanut butter. Like I said in my post if you have other suggestions please feel free to post.
