Anyone Have a Better Training Diet?

I train in BJJ at Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy (www.chattanoogajiujitsu.com). My old diet was for bulking and strength. After training at the academy for a while, i've learned the best muscles i need are in my legs, abs, and lats. I currently weigh in at 6'5 271lbs at around 11%BF (Thats about a 3 week old estimate). I need to get down to 265, and keep it there, but i REALLY don't want to neglect my upper body weight training.

Im thinking if i change my diet, this might be acheivable. I eat around 400 grams of protein daily, and intake roughly 3500 calories daily (i know, im still on a bulking diet).

Any help?

P.S. - Please keep in mind i train BJJ 1 1/2 hours 5 days a week, and MT 1 1/12 hours 3 days a week.

If you are really 271 @ 11% bodyfat, you don't need any recommendations from us. Hell, you are about 4 months of dieting away from stepping on the Mr. Olympia stage. I'm not being a smartass--I'm wondering if there is a typo.

It's good to see a fellow Tennessean on here.

No typo. Just ALOT of long afternoons in the gym, supplements, and eatting. At 6'5. 271 doesnt look that big. At least I dont think it does. I spent high school at 6'5 173lbs. When i got out of high school i got a good bulking diet, supps, and friends that knew how to properly build.

I dont want just bulk anymore though.

What does a typical day in your diet currently look like, that will tell us the best way for you to start cutting calories.

Wow. Good god. That's a lot of eating. I can certainly sympathize. I graduated high school @ 6'0", 145#. I'm now sitting around 205, but it is brutal WORK fr me just to stay that size. I would imagine that you, being a FSB (formerly skinny-bastard), it wouldn't be that hard to drop some weight. That would especially hold true with your activity level. For your body mass and expenditure, depending upon what those calories are coming from, 3500 kCal would seem to be maintenance level at best.

I'm going to take a shot-in-the-dark and assume your BF% is a little higher than 11%. First of all, almost all measurements (Jackson Pollock caliperization, hydrostatic weighing, etc.) are flawed on the low-end. Secondly, carrying < 30 lb of adipose on a 6'5" frame is pretty damn shredded. Shredded as in at least a 4-pack, striated delts, and clear quad separation. I say that to say this... You probably have some fat that you can easily drop.

In order to more adequately assess your situation, I would need a basic rundown of your daily diet. 3500 kCal doesn't say much as far as a complete nutritional story is concerned.

Hit me back, and we'll see what we can figure out.

Here on Sherdog, always Ctrl-C your text before you hit that post button. I learned it the same way.

I believe my BF has gone up as well. As i mentioned earlier, last time i was on calipers was almost a month ago. I peaked at 290 lbs with, regrettably, illegal help. I hit 290 and single digits BF. Im not proud of it now. Just want to make that clear. Since coming clean about 6 months ago, it's been an uphill battle. I lost weight, and much lean muscle mass, as expected. Im still on my bulking diet as i mention earlier. Here it goes....be nice...lol

7:45am - wake up, eat 2 apples, 2 peices of grilled/ovenroasted chicken breast (approx 10-12 oz's), and drink a full serving of Cyto Sport followed by 24 oz's water

9:45am - eat 1 apple, a cup of dry roasted lightly salter Planters peanuts, and if i can fit it in, a banana to help leg cramps.

2:00pm - Lunch Time!!!! 2 peices of grilled/oven roasted chicken breast (approx 10-12 oz's), full serving of Cyto Sport, 1 apple, cup of nuts, 24 oz's of water

7:45pm - post workout. Usually consist of a few turkey breast on whole wheat or whole grain sandwiches. I try and do about 70 carbs after my workout.

Thats about it in a nutshell. Ive eatten earlier recently so it doesn't stick as bad. Any help from you guys would be highly appreciated. I know its not going to be as easy going at this clean as it was before, but thats something im more than willing to deal with. Thank you. Lee.

Okay. I'm a little bit confused. Based on a quick scan of your diet, it doesn't appear to be anywhere close to 3500 kCal. The numbers are closer to this:

F - 90g / C - 200 g / P - 180g / kCal ~ 2300

That being said, at your size, with that kind of intake, you should currently be dropping weight at a fairly noticable rate. I eat a hell of a lot more than that, and I struggle to stay above 200.

~Terumo

*Edited to say that I completely misread several parts of the diet, and this post is invalid on every level. Haha.

Your lack of vegetables is disturbing. Are you allergic to green?
