A can of soda contains the equivelant of about one cup of granulated sugar and contains no vitamins or nutrients. If you were told to eat 1 cup of granulated sugar several times a day, would you have any doubt in your mind that's an unhealthy habit likely to decrease your quality of life?

N-do,
I fully agree with the sugar element. So, how about diet soda?!

Have you seen the guys who go too 7-11 and buy the "BIG GULPS". If you cant see the corrilation with pop and weight then your pretty silly, or too young to realize it.

When i was into school sports all i drank was pop. No problem, i was young, dumb, and so active it didnt matter. After i turned 20 and most of my sports finished, my ****bolism slowed i continued drinking only pop/juice thinking it woudlnt hurt me either. I gained about 50 pounds till i realized something had to change. Last dec the main thing in my diet i changed was removing pop/juice, and i got more active. Now i cant stand pop, only drink water, and im weighing as much as i did in grade 10-11 and feel way better then the last 3-4 years of my life.

You dont need to belive me, after all it is your health, but i think 95% of the people out there who know any better will tell you one pop is too many. Does that mean one pop a day will kill you? no, but why do you HAVE to drink one pop a day? it has no benifits what so ever.

Man, I must really be unclear. Does anyone know of any substantial evidence of what DIET soda does to harm your body? Please, scare me with real data!

Baatar - Regardless of whether drinking diet soda has any scare harmful effects it's about an unwillingness to give up the idea of having soda.

Diet soda is just a way of trying to cheat the understanding that soda are bad for people and everyone should simply be drinking more water. Till you mentally are willing to leave soda's and the idea of soda's behind then it really doesn't matter what anyone tells you because you gonna keep looking for a reason to allow yourself atleast a diet pop of some sort as way of getting out sticking strictly to water.

For those unused to mainly drinking water as their main source of liquid, it takes time just like learning to eat certain vegetables. Eventually you will learn to simply appreciate water and your desire for anything else, except for the occasional beer, will fade away.

Use of a water filter or filtered pitcher will greatly increased the likelihood that you will have that glass of water instead of diet soda if you don't have a budget that includes bottled water.

I use a Brita water pitcher and squeeze a half a lemon into the pitcher. Sometimes I even shave some of the zest of the lemon into the pitcher as well. Not only does this help to mask generally unpleasant tasting water, but I have found cuts through the film dry mouth leaves amazingly well.

more than a couple of cans a week is too much, i dont see a problem with it drinking it every once in a while, but ever since i stopped drinking regular soda (i drink diet soda every now and then) ive lost a couple of pounds, my skin is a lot clearer and im able to last longer while running or lifting weights

I dont have data, but a friend of mine told me he read into most of that "data" and said the amount of chemicals in diet soda given to lab rats who got sick off of it was the amount that 10,000 cans of diet soda a person would drink, so sure it can harm you, but anything in excess is bad, shit even drinking too much water can kill you

Lol. I used to drink beer and still crave it. For some reason, quitting alcohol was easier than quitting the occasional diet soda. Go figure...
