Help me. I like junk food

Even tho I consider myself athletic, I love junk food. And when I'm on them, I perform really bad. But when I'm not on them, I perform like an athlete. I don't understand why I'm so hungry for htem, let alone, addicted to it. I'm not overweight btw, I'm pretty lean.

If I have nothing to do all day, for some reason I"m tempted to eat bad food. Only in days I am busy, I'd eat good food (cuz it's easier to prepare and quicker to eat). Today I dont' work, so I ate jack in the box for breakfast, and then taco bell nacho belgrande for lunch.

I know it's bad, but I don't know why even tho I gas out and get light headed when on these, I continue to do it, like Im having trouble learning lessons of eating bad food. If I *really* want a good workout on a particular day, I have to struggle to eat right, before training. And it pays off. Yet, I'll eat bad on days I don't consider "important". (FYI, these are short term effects. if I eat junk food, and I work out the next day, and I eat well the next day, I perform well. For me, the bad effects of junk food only lasts a day)

Why is it hard for me mentally to resist the temptation, after being an athlete so long and understanding (and experiencing) the importance of a good diet??? Also, the same with soda and energy drinks :\

It's like any habit/addiction, it takes effort to break.

You're gonna have to make the decision to stay away from junk food and work hard at sticking with it. When I quit smoking I took it day by day, it was easier to tell myself "I'm not gonna smoke today" rather than, "I'm not gonna smoke for the rest of my life" Before you know it, the days turn into weeks, into months into years.

Say no at the grocery store, if you bring it home your going to eat it. The more inconvenient you make junk food the easier it is to eat healthy.

I'm in the same boat man. I'm an ADDICT! Its an everyday struggle for me. Like Sonny said, take it day by day and its a lot easier. And try to go grocery shopping right after you've had a good size meal. Its much easier to resist temptation when you're full.

That's the truth. I find myself not craving junk food as long as it's not in the house. I say just don't put yourself in that position. Don't buy it at all. And eat before going grocery shopping so your appetite for buying unecessary items is lower.

Try to plan what your going to eat before you get hungry...its not all your fault because when our body gets hungry we crave starches...usually in the form of simple carbohydrates. That why people will by chips and chocolate bars while in the checkout at a grocery store...don't allow yourself to get to a point where you are that hungry and you may be more able to resist eating crap!

For me, the worst things I eat are fast food restaurants. And if I have free time, I tend to be willing to drive there, than eat the better foods I have at home.

Swallow your car keys next time

For real though...i'm a sugar addict, and like you I have no self control. So only thing I can do is not keep any in the house.

Try to make junk-food a treat/reward. For example (what do i know what your schedule is like). Easier said than done, but next time you sit at home and you crave fast-food promise yourself that you'll go get some AS SOON as you eat (pick some reg. food u eat...veggies..sandwich...small meal...protein shake). Regardless of what you ate, it'll curb your appetite enough to A) not go get junkfood B) get junkfood but only a small order or not finish a big order cause you're full.

and if that doesn't help...swallow your keys.

Some other things that helped me:

Watch Supersize Me a few times and check out:

http://www.dietfacts.com/

You can search by restaurant. For example, I used to get Double Cheeseburger extra value meal at McDonalds all the time.

Well for the Double Cheeseburger:

And the for the large fries:

After seeing those numbers it made me sick. They have a lot of restaurants, so you should be able to find all your vices.
