fruit and sugar

The consensus opening of this board seems to be that sugar is bad and should be avoided at all costs. Yet fruit should be consumed multiple times per day, despite the fact that it contains a lot of sugar. For breakfast like a lot of you I eat oatmeal with honey, raisins, and blueberries. Just looking at the sugar content per serving we have:

honey - 16g
blueberry- 12g
raisins - 30g!!

Thats a total of 58 grams of sugar just for the oatmeal. According to the ingredients these are all natural and have no added sugar in them. Is the sugar in fruit considered "good sugar"? or just a necessary evil outweighed by the obvious health benefits of eating fruit?

You're right, many types of Fruit = sugar.

Don't eat a ton of it.

It has good natural fiber, vitamins, antioxidents, and perhaps other nutrients, so I'd eat it regularly, but watch the quantity and types that you eat.

For example, a tomato is also a fruit that is much lower in sugar.

theres a good article at t-nation called "the forbidden fruit" that you should check out.

also, i dont think honey counts as a fruit, and raisins are dried, and dried fruits are generally bad. blueberries are all good though

The regular honey you buy in a store is real bad. Its cooked. It should be raw.

Honey is even worse than fruit. It is a very thick solution of various sugars and simple carbs. http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-B00001-01c21Ro.html

Even this raw unprocessed honey isn't much better -- just because there are additional enzymes and such in it...so what? Not counting the water content it is still nearly all sugar.

As a condiment, its OK, but I wouldn't get in the habit of pouring too much of it on anything.
