Favorite MRP Bars?
There's a few new threads rattling around here about bars, but nothing really good at the moment. I'm looking for some decent meal replacement action here for on-the-go and long hours at work to keep my ****bolism going without sacrificing my diet for it.
Cost is also an issue.
The only bars I've tried lately were those Greens+ bars that were mentioned a few days back. I tried chocolate and natural flavors, both tasted fine with nothing bad to say. Natural greens plus just tastes like a really light raisin flavor to me.
The profile on the other hand wasn't exactly what I was going for, but the ingredients look nice, minus some soy action. Oh and the carbs were more along the lines of simple carbs, where I'd much rather prefer complex for my needs. I don't really want a PWO bar if I can find an anytime bar.
I do have john berardi's gourmet nutrition eBook which does have some home-made bars in it. I've tried two or three recipes and they were okay. None of them had "veggie servings" in them that I can think of. I wonder if Greens+ can be easily used in bars the way protein powder can. Greens+ bars are cold processed where as most of JBs bars are baked.
If one was to make such a bar, what would the ideal specs be? 200 cal, 25-30g prot, ?? carbs, ?? fats. Assuming you could slip the greens+ in there and the carbs would be complex, low-GI, and the fats as healthy fats.
If you can bake with greens+, I'll throw it into some of JB's stuff and tell you about what it comes out like.
