Farmer's market

I love farmer's markets. These things are a godsend to anyone who wants to eat organic, local, fresh, in-season produce. The people are always nice and generous, the crop is always very fresh, and there's OFTEN exotic foods (heirloom tomatoes, black carrots, etc.) that you simply cannot find in the supermarket. Now every week I make a habitual trip to farmer's market, and get 90% of my fruits and veggies there.

anybody else love these things?

One note for those not in the know, food sold at farmer's market is not typically strains that need be shipped across the country, as a result, the food grown is for taste not packageablity ( think I just made that word up). as a result, it doesn't store well on its own. I chop and foodsavor all produce I won't be using that night as soon as I get home, and it lasts pretty well through the week.

URBAN (ûrbn) adj. Of, relating to, or located in a city.

RURAL (rrl) adj. Of or relating to farming; agricultural.

The irony is fuckin killing me...

When I lived overseas, farmer's markets were the only option. They have great stuff and it's cheap as all hell. There are a few near me now, but I haven't been....guess I'll check em out.

I live in a fairly big city (pop. about 180,000) and have a farmer's market about 2 miles from my house. The stuff not keeping thing is completely true, got a pint of strawberries and they were molding (or whatever that white fuzzy crap was) in two days. A lot of the stuff is "no spray" at least, however "organic" is much harder to find. And my market doesn't allow eggs, only allow fruit and vegetables.

I live right in the yuppie center of Boston... there's a bi-weekly farmer's market at Copley Square that just kills me. Everything is incredibly expensive and most of it doesn't really look that fresh or healthy.

The famous Boston tourist attraction Haymarket farmer's market sells nothing but internationally imported goods, decent prices, but really dirty and the same stuff I can get at my normal grocery store.

I used to live in a college town of 80,000 and there were three farmer's markets that were well stocked, had great prices, and fresh healthy food.

sigh...

We got a farmer's market about 15 minutes away from my house. They do have some good food there, I must say.
