The answer to that question really comes down to what you're eating for dinner. It's not as bad as you think.

Of course if you're eating a double cheese burger from McDonalds you'll get some negative effects like gaining fat. But if you limit your carbs and get your protein from a source that isn't high in saturated fats and eat your veggies you should be fine.

In fact, I actually try to eat a little something (shake) before bed.

i'm refering to like a full dinner (not fast food but nothing overly healthy say regular steak and potatoes for we) but i've heard that eating late or right before you go to sleep is somehow bad for you ... i'm sure eating a double cheesburger at any time will make you gain fat so i'm just refering to eating at night vs not

I never used to eat late at night but started last year.
I would eat something 3-4 hours before training at 8, be finished at home by 10.30 or so and starving, so I would eat things like burgers, rice, chicken, potatoes etc.

I managed to get tubby to be honest, so now I'm sticking (trying to) something I remember reading. Eating something at night is required if you train a lot, but what you ingest should be liquid (protein shake and milkfor example).

Thats just my experience though.

BTW-a full blown meal would probably sit heavily and give you problems sleeping

Yeah like Ian said, liquid is prefferable(casein shake or cottage cheese) so that you can sleep more restfully. Also, you need food before bed to prevent your body from going catbolic. The key is to avoid sugary and starchy carbs. Instead stick with lean cuts of meat and veggies if you need a meal

I don’t think the question should are you eating to late is should be what time are you going to bed. If your eating then but not going to bed until 3 or 4 am then that completely different from eating then and going to bed at midnight or 1 am.

If you're going hardcore on a diet, I've read before the benefits of not eating 4 hours before going to bed. This way, you have a 12 hour period of fasting. It's probably not the best thing for your ****bolism, but as long as you kick of with a hearty, healthy breakfast, it's not too bad an idea.
