I'm not advocating this but I would say more cultish then religous based on the FEW I have interacted with.

Then again there's a saying about 1% of the population causing 99% of the problems. I'm sure it's the same whereby only a few make a real fuss about things, the majority are doing their own thing but they all end up getting lumped together in the same catagory.

You know, you're right about that. Unfortunately all us vegans get coined as PETA freaks. Yes, PETA can be complete fuckin' morons, we all know that. Sure, most vegans probably agree with their beliefs, but that's about it. We don't all agree with their tactics.

That being said, believe it or not, a lot of PETA members aren't even vegan. Shit, some aren't even vegetarian. Go figure. So yes, it's like a cult. Sort of like Scientology, where you can pay to progress. It's sad but true.

On the flip side, like you said - there are us few that choose to be vegans and make choices in our own life (un-related to PETA) and try to do better for ourselves, and the planet. That's the best way I can say it.

People in this forum do have a tendency to instantly think we're spouting propaganda when we say we prefer a vegan diet.

I try not to make sweeping generalisations about people unless its for humourous intentions

edit- unfortunately as well as I have found out in life there are ALWAYS people who like to make a crusade of something. It's just different activities attract more people with this mind set. Usually its based on the demographic the activity appeals to

ie not many crusaders in the knitting community
